Ah, I see. Well, my intention was to simply add evidence to the claim that the creator of the well known 2048 didn't know about Threes when he created it. There seemed to be a dispute, so I remembered the comment and linked to it.

The webpage for that 2048 references Threes, so even he is supporting a line of direct influence.

Calling someone a criminal degrades their status from someone who doesn't commit crime to someone who does. It degrades them from someone who adds value to someone who takes value.

There is moral judgement involved with calling someone a criminal, and rightfully so. Taking what other people have created by force or extortion degrades society.

WTF, HTML and CSS? 12 years ago

Great tips, but it seems like a fairly random selection with basics about positioning and good gotcha tips like <tr> styling. I feel like there could be a whole page dedicated to floats.

Also, I think recording strangers in public would help curb antisocial behavior.

We have that ability already. In Australia last year there were several cases of racially motivated verbal abuse on public transport being caught on mobile phones. These made the evening news. I wonder if this, and other similar instances around the world, have made anyone think twice before being anti-social.

A simple basic income implies that you provide everybody with the same minimum income and they cut back on public services etc to the minimum since in theory people can now buy what they want.

I haven't seen the reduction in services implied anywhere. It may, however, be a reality when implemented, but the intention isn't simply to change how government funds are spent on the poor. Generally, the aim is to redistribute wealth from the 'rich'.

I like that the leadership tips were generally about building confidence, instead of playing the victim as would be expected by the campaign name (as long as you ignore the intro copy).

Really the only tip that matters is tip #9, which basically says people will give you shit but do it anyway. This is something all kids need to learn.

Advice: don't cold call hoping to sell. Unlike inbound methods, you have no idea where they are in the buying cycle. It could be years before you close, so don't bother trying.

Instead call to get information. Most people want to help. Ask them questions about things relevant to your service to qualify them. Ask them if they want information about your service and collect an email address. Add them to a nurture campaign so if they ever are looking to buy you're at the top of their list.

I got a marketing assistant to make these type of calls for a couple of weeks with a 60% success rate of getting an email address. In Australia email permission is opt in. I don't know what the conversion rate of the nurture campaign ended up being because I left the company.

1) Use industry averages for your target market based on studies or your own surveys

2) Show how you've worked out the value (e.g. 1000 reports = 20 hours saved. 20 hours x $100 (wage of target users) = $2000 value generated)

3) Use conservative figures and say 'get value from X' OR use higher figures and say 'get up to X value'

I agree and have thought the same thing. When I got sleep paralysis in my teens I had the terror feeling and had the feeling of a ghost in my room.

The only time I was able to relax during an episode, I had the experience of moving out of my body. If it is possible to think that with the brain in a state of sleep paralysis then it could be possible at other times too.

I want the NBN 13 years ago

In Australia, where this petition is relevant, these acronyms are well understood by the public and don't need further explanation.

I started the process of getting a merchant account with NAB and quickly gave up. They had a long check list of requirements that had to be completed before the application was submitted. This included have the signup and subscription processes fully working so they could test them.

Pin is very needed here.

A tagging strategy has one purpose: to gather data for a reporting strategy. Why report on bounce rate where the expected use case is to "bounce" (follow link in, read, leave)? Surely the aim of blog reporting is to track visitor trends for overall audience growth/decline and topic popularity.

Why I Say Dumb Shit 13 years ago

My guess is that the article is another of the dumb things said, with the aim of getting responses about good ways to learn from others.

Smart TVs are dumb 13 years ago

LG has a remote control iOS app for its smart TVs that pairs via wifi. This gives slightly easier menu access and control over the cursor. The biggest WTF is for text entry. Instead of being able to use the iPad virtual keyboard, the keyboard in on the TV. You have to move the cursor over the desired letter and tap. Horrible.
