using html 5 on your ipad ??? ;-) You don't need Flash to watch video on the web. The problem is that most flash content out there is designed for big screens and mouse interaction. Therefore the flash experience on mobile devices is far from optimal.

You are right. It's just Google advocates so strongly open standards (check the first 10 min of google i/o keynote)and now they are directly supporting flash in Chrome and Android. imho it's just very inconsistent.

yes, but it's not an iphone/apple problem, but a carrier issue. Wouldn't be surprised if you cannot tether with Android mobiles on some carriers.

sorry, my iphone tethers since 3.0 (depends on the carrier :) the media sync and streaming sound lie an awesome feature.

Considering flash ... I find it sad, that google is actually supporting it. Where is the open standards idea there??

Other than that, I'm happy about the competition. Hopefully makes Apple to include some of this features. Yet, I don't see the UI on Android getting any notable improvements in Froyo :( Maybe I need to play with it, as soon as it's available.

I also wondered ... is there no firmware to download and flash on your device? We have a nexus in the lab and I would love to try froyo out.

With Apple, you always get the new versions/betas the same day they are announced and can play around with them.

Developer friendliness/ support? I only played with the first Android release so far. Yet, honestly, for me the Iphone developer documentation and support seem by far better.

Openness? Why do I still have to jailbreak and unlock an Android phone, when it is so open? (Rhetorical Question)

Price? Yes, check if you want phones with really bad battery lifetime (so far, let's see when a decent phone comes out, I might reconsider).

Yes, great lib (totally forget about the python bindings). I was using it under matlab works like a charm

I am currently playing around with it. Decent support vector machine implementation. However, I have some problems with it. It is by far not as hugh as weka http://www.cs.waikato.ac.nz/ml/weka/ It is in python (big plus) and seems to be easily hacked for online classification. I like https://mlpy.fbk.eu/ a bit better, as it has also a decent integrated Nearest Neighbor (ok, ok this one is not hard to implement on your own) and FDA + DWT (awsome).

SICP really changed the way I look at computer science. So enlightening: data and commands are interchangeable etc. I was surprised to see so many bad reviews on amazon. Although flipping through them, it seems they just don't 'want' to understand the book :(

Although it is great to have lectures, slides etc. online (check also the Open Course Ware initiative from MIT), it is still a difference if you are just listening to the lectures or if you can really interact with the people attending. Education is more about interaction and struggling for ideas than it is about listening to lectures. Still great complimentary resources ... (also for lecturers).

forgets to focus on the addiction factor. Pen and paper works as well, if they are used. If a child does maths with the DS and it is addictive, ... I know it from my own experience. I play more often brain age on my DS than I sit down and solve math equations :)
