It's interesting, I have been saying a much less intelligible version of this from observing my children. They have been exposed to services without advertising, and as soon as they see an ad... "Another commercial!!!". A part of me hopes their entire generation can develop a disdain for advertising based on the negatives they can see in their parents.
This is a wonderful piece and I am glad that I came across it. The line that really hit home for me is the description attached to the photos with his girls. I have two young girls now and I take it to heart that right now may be the best time in my life. This sentiment has been something I have heard from many people about their children at this young age. This is just more confirmation to slow down pay attention.
This was exactly what I was thinking, too. Systems could be set up to monitor the trajectory of objects moving around a structure and then alerting and closing bridges or tunnels.
It is shocking and that does not sound like an inappropriate response.
That was my exact thought. Thankfully, I woke up to messages that my family members were safe and sound. I hope they find everyone but at this point it seems unlikely.

Interesting, I watched a video about this topic a while back[0].
I don't remember it exploring the larger impacts related to government and such but instead digs into how exactly airlines make money from this system.

Seems fitting that Cloudflare spoke so aggressively against Verizon[0][1] last week and then this incident happens to them. I will be interested to read the postmortem on this situation. I really like Cloudflare but you should be careful not to jinx yourself with blogs posts like that.

I agree in theory but what else can be made better about podcasts? Is it worth the trade off for everyone's data? These are questions I believe were asked and answered with NPR One. Also, anonymized data is still data and that derived information can be very powerful.
The notion is valid but users clearly don't want to be tracked. NPR One lost and they still continue to push it and will likely convert Pocket Casts. I find the news discouraging at best.
I think you are exactly right. NPR pushed NPR One in order to track users. It failed miserably. So now the plan is to join with other big networks and buy a successful podcast app to then try again. It will likely degrade Pocket Casts and I am disappointed with this news.
Pocket Casts never tracked anything. Why is it now okay to start tracking me? Does NPR do something better than anything other large organization?
I was just saying this the other day. I have been a steep learning curve about retirement accounts, mortgages, etc. There should really be a financial curriculum in high school, possibly all four years. This is basic information that everyone should be aware of.
I remember 'discovering' Python in my old Programming Languages class and it is still as fascinating now as it was then. Congrats to Guido.
I agree that not owning a car would be better than owning. But simply saying "you should move to a better place" is not only a privileged statement but also a callous one. You assume people are not in a place for important reasons like staying close to family, working for a company they like, simply loving where they live or not being able to afford living to an urban environment. These are all valid and if not owning a car is too prohibitive to basic life needs than a person should own a car.
Also, the Americans or Australians comment is a bit of a broad stoke, no?
Yes, as other people have said containers does this magically. I even have Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp sign-ins in their own container. Everything is separate and I honestly feel safer on the net because of it.

I have a great interest and love for anything sports. I enjoy learning and building new things. I am currently looking for a great opportunity wherever it may be.
ST2 was the first text editor that really caught my eye. They have also been great with allowing users to permanently "trial" the software. I moved to ST3 beta as soon as it came out and the transition was mostly smooth.
Then VSCode came out and I loved every second of it. It does take more up more memory and is a bit slower but they are quality software and the difference to me is negligible. I cannot see myself going back. SublimeHQ lost me when they stopped updating the software regularly. I know it was rock solid software but the project seemed to be a standstill and VSCode grabbed my attention. Now it has many more features and better support from MS. I cannot imagine a reason to switch unless ST3 gets the same level of love.
Yeah, it is likely the smartest decision for him. I have watched him play his whole career (Ravens fan). He is good but he would have likely bounced around the league as a backup and got cut in the next few years due to age. With this decision he is starting a career that will be enjoyable, safe and well paying. You cannot beat that. Good luck #64.
100% agree with this in general and specifically. People tend to get too hung up on issues that are over. Zed has moved on and so should everyone else.
These are really great tips. I was thinking about driving into the path of totality on the day. After thinking about it more and the hype that is surrounding this thing I am probably not going to. The highways are going to be jam packed (I-95). Reserving a place to stay or something similar in an area is also probably out of the question.
It makes me sad that people are so upset by the recent hype Kotlin is getting. Everyone has something that they get excited about. Kotlin is new and shiny and has been around awhile but only on the fringe. Google brings it to the spotlight and people are going to be interested. Maybe Kotlin gets big, maybe not but there is no need to get angry about the news. It is big news. Android is the most used smartphone OS in the world[1]. This is going to have an impact somewhere.

What frameworks would you recommend or look to get started with?
I am currently using Source Code Pro. I find it very nice to use as my daily driver.
It has a minimap! This is excellent.
If the NFL can call themselves a nonprofit then anyone else should be able to do the same.
I am really hopeful for the enhanced scrollbar to be implemented soon. After that, I am pretty well set with vscode.
