There's also waiting 1-2 minutes for green light on a pedestrian semaphore while the street is entirely empty of cars. If no cops are in sight I definitely cross the street. Usually one or two people get encouraged and also cross but there's always the sticklers who would wait the end of the world if not given the green light.

On the plus side, this would solve the housing problem too. Without the nuisance of sleep requirements we would move to the offices and live, ahem, produce there 24/7. Much like cattle.
This is the great future the visionary OP envisions for us.
I agree with the longpost :)
Also I suspect some people are more tolerant on alcohol than others and I don't mean being allergic to alcohol. Like I was never able to drink and not feel pretty nasty afterwards, even small amounts (not that this deterred me from doing it occasionally). But I see lots of people who can have 2-3 beers and be totally fine and like 10 beers and fairly ok next morning. Not me, and only way I explain it is they are better equipped genetically to processing alcohol than me.
So alcohol doesn't help me much but doesn't mean it helps noone.
Well it's generally recommended to "go far" cautiously in several steps otherwise you can severely damage yourself.
Anyhow I expect you to be fairly young so that explains it somewhat. If you're 50 though then it's double weird :)

I bought one and only one Amazon share. Hence as per your "solution", I own part of the company.
Explain how that makes me love 5+ days in the office. Btw, it's so cool how you put that +. Not just 5 weekdays, but also weekends.
> To be fair I'm not trafficking anything
Why don't you try it next time, let us know how it went :)
Now seriously I think they must have had some dogs or devices to sniff up the drug, otherwise I can't explain how they isolated him from the crowd.
She had it easy. A local guy got 3 years in prison with no parole for bringing like 70 coca leaves. The level of retardness of some countries is unbelievable.

> I don’t have a CS degree, I don’t think Leetcode-style interviews are any kind of indicator of job performance, and I think you can be a successful Staff engineer and never write a line of production code in that role.
Then don't fucking call yourself an engineer! Be a project manager, a product manager, sales, IT admin, QA, anything but mimicking a prestigious brand like Chinese "Adidos" shoes try to capitalize on the success of the original.
If you can't program you're not an engineer, period!
Terrible, terrible article. In summary "where do you see yourself in 5 years" is now labelled as "evidence". : facepalm:
Lots of unexploded ordnance. Reminds me of the story of the guy who tried to weld an artillery shell (and blew up), he was sure it's safe coze his father used it for 40 years as a gardening tool:

Well @rini, maybe English is not your native language (neither is mine) but between "maybe there's hopefully some yet undiscovered low hanging fruit" and "LLMs are cracking all the genomes and all molecular biology" there's as much distance as between "riding a bicycle" and "interstellar travel at warp speeds".

Well it seems to me that games from 10 years ago run on a today's integrated GPU just fine. But that's not the case with TODAY's games which barely run on a dedicated GPU from a few years ago.
So until game developers will completely ceise to target the powerful dedicated GPU of today and limit themselves willingly to technology 10 years in the past, we won't see the death of dedicated GPU.
Only place where that could happen would be Soviet Russia by decree of the central committee of the party. In a competition based capitalist society it will happen... never. Someone will always use the latest and greatest GPU and if you don't do it too your company falls behind. Hence: not a chance.
> Fundamentally, we have no evidence of anything that will happen in the future.
Yeah, by this line of thought Jesus will descend from Heaven and save us all.
By the same line of fantasy, "give us billions to bring AGI", why not "gimme a billion to bring Jesus. I'll pray really hard, I promise!"
It's all become a disgusting scam, effectively just religious. Believe in AGI that's all there is to it. In practice it's just as (un) likely as scientists spontaneously creating life out of primordial soup concoctions.
OLX is basically a second hand flea market. Only form of protection you have is the price: should be so low as to not hurt you much in case the product is defective and seller ghosts you. I never had a problem and bought many things on it, most expensive a ZX Spectrum clone with CP/M and floppy drive for 400 euro. My brother bought a couple of brand new smartphones for like 50% discount and they were genuine. It works more often than not but there's always the risk.
> In a graduating class of 5000 computer science majors at a good university
Jézus Krisztus and people are wondering why there is a job crisis underway. I had to attend my nephew's university graduation this summer and was shocked to see some 500 computer science majors, thinking where will all these people find a job? And you're talking of 5000 as a "sure thing".
Well it ain't no sure thing anymore and graduate inflation surely don't make things better.
LOL. That's a good one :))
Sounds like the background music in horror movies, when the Aliens are about to attack.
A bit sad. But I haven't checked the site in 10+ years. It was hot in the heydays of the Internet and Pentium processors, reading reviews about CPU and motherboard performance really helped in deciding what to buy when a top of the line computer was already obsolete a year later.
Progress has essentially halted since 15+ years. Back then a new computer really coud do something the old one didn't even dreamt of. Now what can the new generation of CPU do? Watch YouTube shorts even shorter? :) Or the new Android or Apple phone? Send more pictures on WhatsApp? Literally don't see any difference between my current phone / computer compared to what I had 10 years ago. (I don't play games, maybe there it's visible somewhat).
Anyhow, it was nice while it lasted but all good things must come to an end ... Bye Anandtech, you will be remembered.
After 12 years at Google I have a couple million$ in my account so I afford to not give a fuck.
> In every licensed file, original copyright, patent, trademark, and attribution notices must be preserved
Well, Edwinkys, it's your fault for not adding a copyright notice to each file. I recommend add one now at least, so future forks will have your name it it.
Something like this: https://github.com/aquarians/Public/blob/main/Aquarians/Back...
When I lookup an algorithm on Stack overflow I can also see the discussions around it, people poking holes at it, successively corrected versions so in the end I understand how, why and trust that it works. LLMs spit out something with no context, like crappy enterprise software that you're suppose to maintain. I hate them both and while I can't refuse my crappy enterprise job I can say no to more, a lot more of it from AI.
That's why my phone SIM is still not a subscription but rather I manually buy credit each month. The price is even lower than subscription and benefits exceed it, shitloads of Gb and minutes. If I'll use roaming I'll pay for a more expensive credit that month but I have piece of mind I won't be charged thousands of euro at the end of the month.
Like telecom providers of course cloud providers could have metered service billed under "get only as much as you paid" policy but it's obviously they totally and in bad faith don't want that.
Retail "traders" are the textbook definition of mentally challenged obnoxiousnes. Go meet them on forums like EliteTrader.com and you will soon realize who you are dealing with.
It's your fault really. You don't build custom software for guys having the intellectual capacity and budget of a tractor driver unless you enjoy pain.
Guys vomiting such blank statements as ummonk deserve to be beaten with a wet cloth.
Well the morale is: don't eat wild mushrooms no matter the source (pick them yourself or picked by an "expert"). At least that's my rule. There's a ton of cultivated mushrooms and a ton of other tasty safe foods to choose from, I don't give a fuck how exotic the wild mushrooms flavor would be.
I'm not curios. Because curiosity killed the cat.
I can walk for hours but can't run more than a few minutes. So obvious conclusion. If the goal is "traveling" then running doesn't even qualify. Soldiers marching 20 miles a day don't run'em. They walk.
Yes. We absolutely must to return to the office and work 6 day weeks in 12 hours shifts and take one week vacation in a year, evidently not in one go because can't leave the assembly line.
The shareholders must get their dividends!
Well it's depressing. My mother has a fairly large garden (some 1500 sqare meters) and takes quite some amount of labor to tend to it. So you work all spring and early summer only to see the crops wither away... makes you go on depression pills or just abandon the whole darn thing and buy Duch imported plastic vegetables.
A bit unrelated, nowadays my mother was telling me a memory from her teenage years in the 60s. In early summer she'd come home for the weekend from boarding school in the city and her mother (my grandma) would greet her with lunch and a salad made from fresh cucumber and onion (add salt, oil and vinegar). It would be too early for tomatoes but she still remembers the taste of that early salad.
