This makes me want to join again to uni and finally get my degree, but man, I haven't enough time to do that and also have some "myself" time.

Leisure time is a human need btw, I learnt it too late after a burnout.

I knew about the difference they have between UNIX-like OSs in the usage of different signals (and the System V vs BSD battles, between others), but I didn't know Windows didn't have a similar system (I haven't done too much low-level in Windows).

I knew some changes (like STL containers) came from Boost, but I didn't know those also came from there, and specially since such a long time!

That means I need to look more Boost documentation :)

I really like how some good structures used by other languages, specially Rust and Zig, have been added to the newer C++ standard.

The Result, Optional, and Variant are really sweet for day-to-day use of the language, and those in-process standard libraries of SIMD operations, BLAS mathematical functions, and the the execution library looks really cool, specially as standard.

I would like C++ would be a little more "batteries included" in some ways, like having a basic standard for signals, networking (just handling sockets would be a huge thing), and some basic system calls.

I wonder if some Apple-made software, like Final Cut, make use of all of those "duplicated" instructions at the same time for getting a better performance...

I know how just the multitasking nature of the OS probably make this situation happens across different programs, but nonetheless would be pretty cool!

IIRC some countries, like UK, have a similar thing like Credit Score, mostly used for what type of loans they can give you, max credit card limits, and other financial products, but won't affect at all to buy a car in cash or renting an apartment.

For me it's crazy not being able to rent a place even paying a whole year beforehand.

You can avoid this problem easily not letting students using phones or computers in the classroom and making doing more tasks at the classroom than at home.

If you're going to say "but in a working environment you use a computer", then teach them how to use text processing and spreadsheets int the computer room, a thing that didn't happen today in most schools btw.

In my Uni we still had some coding test done with pen and paper (2014-2018), and AFAIK, they're still doing them. I even done a part of an exam in assembly with a provided Xilinx PicoBlaze assembly mnemonics list.

I don't know why people demonize them. If you know the syntax you're asked for, you can write in that language, and if you were asked to write in pseudo-code some algorithms, you should be able without any additional computerize help.

I remember in the mid 2000s how some Xara Designer illustration software was able to do that, I don't know how isn't a more common thing (or maybe I don't know enough specialized software in that matter).

I remember well that program because it was available both for Windows and Linux, a really rare thing in that time.

Some European Diesels have reached that amount with the same engine block and head ;-)

My dad's BWM E60 has a M47 2.0L Turbo Diesel, and with around 440,000km keeps going strong.

He probably will change it when it reach the half million due to being an old car, but the sad part here is how we won't probably be able to buy any brand new car that could reach that amount of miles without spending a lot of money on the way on repairs.

IIRC they set the diff page to update entirely every reactive element in the page when some of this element change, instead of that one.

Hyundai/Kia are fine in Diesel engines, electric power trains are giving plenty of problems, and their 2.5L petrol engines are incredibly bad.

I would add that sometimes when people usually say that rancid phrase of "they don't make it as they used to", they are comparing expensive products in the past with cheap ones in the present.

Most of those "good 'ol" goods exist, but probably are pretty/too expensive for what we are used to pay.

I think brand most recent iPhones are ridiculously powerful for their average use, so I don't think this would be an issue.

For older models, on the other hand, it would be an issue, and will put pressure to people to buy a new one.

Not UBI per se, but this exists in rural parts of Southern Spain in some way, and is called Rural Employment Plan (PER in its Spanish initials).

The give simple jobs, like cleaning or painting, to people on the lower bottom of earnings. Most people in that plan are people with low formation, like those who left school in their mid teens.

Not a bad idea IMHO. There are already computers (servers mostly, but also integrated models) who only have 12V power connections and the mainboard does the step-down voltage conversion, and IIRC some companies wanted to do the same to regular desktops.

I would be totally happy if the next gen of computers have 12V outputs to the mainboard and CPU and 48V to the GPU and other power-hungry components. This would make the PCB of those cards a bit bigger, but also would have less power losses and less risk of overheated connectors on the other hand.

After reading the article and the comments, I sincerely don't know why use BSD outside programming a server software that use `pledge()` and `jail()` system calls, like when people make [BCHS servers](https://learnbchs.org/index.html).

Maybe I'm biased because I had worse experience making FreeBSD and OpenBSD in a desktop than with Gentoo, but I think working Modern Linux distros are as customizable, as stable, and with a lot more community and professionals working on them than any BSD one, and with a business in mind, that last detail is really important.

I think those really 2 watts per thread are a lot more important than what us home users usually think. Having to deliver less power and having to dissipate less watts in form of heat in a data centre are really good news to its operative costs, which is usually a lot bigger than the cost of the purchase of the servers

It didn't happed specifically with bread, as other comment exposed, but it happened with other products, specially in bars, cafés, and restaurants.

On the other hand, inflation affected different products in different ways. I remember how in January 1st 2002 a small bag of Ruffles Jamón costed €0.15 in a kiosk and now it's around €0.50 (or even more) in same places (and now contains less product and more air), and I doubt any other product that are nearly 300% percent inflation since 2002 (outside homes sadly)
