I think what the person you're replying to is referring to is the fact that, in contrast to the US, many senior politicians in China literally have engineering backgrounds, or at least engineering degrees. In the US at least, Obesity is on the rise, people eat more meat than ever before, and life expectancy is basically flat over the past decade.

Either thinking they can build something better internally, thinking the new thing doesn't matter, or realizing that it does matter but not having the ability to move fast and commercialize it.
e.g. Microsoft circa 2000 didn't think they could build a better internet. They just thought that the internet didn't really matter that much. Google in 2022 knew that LLMs mattered, and had spent a ton of money, but OpenAI just got a better product to market faster.

There's probably a lot of noise in the data. Off the top of my head, climate (whether roads are exposed to freeze-thaw cycles) and population density/clustering (how many miles of road do you need to maintain per person), are probably more strongly correlated with quality than taxation levels.
Did you mean to write LLMs instead of ML? Aren't traditional NLP techniques a subfield of ML?

I only know Curb as a booking app for regular taxis. It’s generally less expensive than Lyft/Uber in Manhattan.

Sure we have. Climate change, radioactivity, and micro plastics are three major challenges that we have very much engineered ourselves into, and do not appear to be able to engineer ourselves out of.
While I agree with you, I think there's a bit of nuance that is worth considering.
For post-paid subscriptions, e.g. AWS, you've already consumed the service and you are obligated (legally and ethically) to pay for it when the bill comes. You can't change your credit card details to get out of paying.
For pre-paid subscriptions, like a month-to-month SaaS application, I don't really see the issue with using burner accounts and cancelling them if the company makes it hard to cancel. From the company's perspective, don't they just cut off access when the payment doesn't go through? Its not conceptually much different from forgetting about a subscription until the card expires.
More to the point, if the company didn't implement dark patterns in an attempt to prevent users from cancelling, we wouldn't be here in the first place.
Completely off-topic, but do you like prisma, and how are you using it (scale, complexity, solo vs team, etc).
I toyed around with it a while back, and it looked potentially awesome, but different enough that I was worried about using it on a work project in case it failed in some use case.

Not sure if this is what the author is going for, but -ika appears to be a czech suffix indicating a study or branch of science. Which makes this kind of a cool name, in my opinion.
