Having seen a lot of CC-BY-NC licenses in my 3d printing days, most of the creators who chose this license don't want big companies to rip off the idea and make a lot of money with it. But the problem is that If I make any money on it (say I want to play a song on twitch where I do like 5$ a month) in my perception this is commercial use, so I can't use it.

Or back then I had a small company any wouldn't make much money but avoid CC-BY-NC licenses because they are all vague and I know of at least one case of a creator actually going against small shops via legal action.

I tried firefox, chromium and chromium-vaapi (which gives a slight improvement).

I got a prototype of the Lulzbot mini, which I used to print it (and I still have that printer!).

I designed it in a ruby thing that translates things into openscad (crystalscad was the name, but I deprecated it for multiple reasons. There's jenncad in my github repository as its successor, but I didn't have the chance to get it anywhere to stable)

Other software I used were printrun and slic3r.

Hey, I made the prototype for it. I reverse engineered a Littmann cardiology 3 and used a similar diaphragm setup. For the early prototypes I used the one that came with the Littmann stethoscope; later on we got the same result with different approaches, such as cutting out one out of transparent plastic sheet or using shrinkwrap around it.

Nice idea. I'd like to see something applicable for other cities (via openstreetmap?) to explore possible partially remote areas where I could be living; along with the possibility to hook it up with more data.

Background: pretty bad case of asthma, car exhausts being one thing that makes things worse.

They gave me ciprofloxacin for about 4 days without knowing after surgery. Every day in, my ADHD symptoms got worse, my psych medication was less effective and my pain levels increased to a point I noted down 10/10 in my notebook + that page looks like I am a mad lady having a total breakdown. One and a half day later, after I got switched to another class of antibiotics my pain levels dropped to 3-4/10 and I could focus better. This happened suddenly, like someone flipped a switch in my head.

On an earlier occasion I was making detailed suicide plans the second week in on ciprofloxacin, which resolved itself shortly after discontinuation.

It has not caused permanent damage to me but this I have to list it as "allergy" for doctors not to prescribe it to me. I had problems doctors not believing the mental issues that this antibiotic cause.

I tried to comment on a product about that I highly dislike it now as they changed ingredients a month ago. "Sorry, commenting to this product has been disabled because we're currently receiving too many reviews" .

If you take anything that blocks certain dopamine receptors (as some bipolar meds do) that might affect it. I've heard claims that SSRI can cause downregulation of the other neurotransmitters over time, but I don't think I've read a study of that.

Once I was asked and I stated my conditions, but we ended up not having mutual trust in each other. The communication was weird and seemed very suspicious on their side. I slept over it and my gut feeling said not to do it.

No one has ever sued me before but with my personal business as company structure, I am legally liable with up to all my private assets. I am not an anonymous entity, I get jobs mostly by recommendation, getting letters from lawyers messes me up mentally easily and I can't mess with my client's sensitive data in the first place.

My extra charge is giving me extra time and compensation for adding extra security measures and most importantly (encrypted) documentation for myself if in any unlikely case they'd enforce their part.

In essence: I value mutual trust a lot, if I feel lack of trust on their side, I need to be extra careful. The more mutual trust I form with a client, the easier it is to get a mutual understanding and less likely that they'll escalate it to lawyers and courts.

One of the NDAs someone wanted me to sign had a phrase like "I will not share or use anything that I learned working on this project". Not limited to the client's project or anything. Whenever I work on something, I learn something. Be it a minor thing. How would I ever met that contract on my side? I can't forget what I just learned.

My policy is that I charge about 33% extra if they don't trust me not disclosing sensitive information. In fact, if the project requires such, my obligation is to use more work and resources to make sure that this will never leak, including encrypting project files separately, make sure I don't write down notes in my usual 'survival notebook', etc. But the NDA has to be sane.

They compared the error rates of working+short time memory to values that non-adhd people score. My score was significantly lower than average at my first test and on my second test above average on medication.

"We could still have a principled definition of ADHD. It would be something like “People below the 5th percentile in ability to concentrate, as measured by this test.” Instead, we use the DSM, which advises us to diagnose people with ADHD if they say they have at least five symptoms from a list. "

I'm in Germany and I've been diagnosed with ADHD-PI lately (I am in my 30s) after seeing a private specialist about this topic. In addition to that DSM test and 3 other questionnaires, they ran a computer test measuring my ability to concentrate which was repeated after a couple of weeks on medication. The test results were very conclusive and I think that is the strongest diagnosis criteria that I have as it's actually measurable.

It was actually really hard for me to find a doctor to actually diagnose me. I called several doctors and it was either "we're not taking any more patients because diagnosis takes too long" or "we can't tell you if we can diagnose it, you can't make an appointment here, so come in but you might have to wait half a day". Not to mention that by the time you get to your doctor, un-medicated, you will forget to tell about half of your symptoms.

Sorry, don't get me wrong: But in order get get things fixed, they need to be pointed out (and that's the point of posting things to HN, right?).

I've worked on many open hardware projects the past 6 years. Documentation is a huge problem with the majority of open hardware projects.

So what makes a good open hardware documentation?

My first measure for that is "is the documentation good enough so I can acquire all the materials for building it on the other side of the world".

My second measure is "is the documentation good enough for getting me started without wasting a lot of money on trial and error".

My third measure is "is the software or other important information still up to date".

I know that you want to sell your support, but I really find that your website and your open source documentation is lacking documentation.

- Purchasing a kit from the button on top of the page (I assume it's a kit - although the sale button does not say that), it does not say anything about the contents included (apart from the picture I've seen somewhere on the blog), nor the required size, nor where in the world you ship it, nor if shipping is included or how much it is extra. - When you make statements like " A well-run AutoMicroFarm will produce enough vegetables and fish to pay for itself in six months." - I want to see data!

- The open source documentation should include drawing and layout examples of your product to be more complete

- There's unfortunately no information about what if you want to expand your construction. What's the maximum planting area size for the size of the fish tank/amount of fish?

- You should think about selling individual components - especially those that are not commonly available in hardware stores

I'd offer my services for documentation and fixing the website, but I fear that I'd need to play with it myself in order to understand things better - and I cannot go to NC because I don't feel safe going there being a transsexual.

I remember the pre-barcode times at Aldi in the late 1980s in Germany. The cashiers would type in numbers into the cash register like crazy. They knew every price of every product and had to put it into the machine. It was at least thrice as fast as every other shop at that time.

It felt like barcodes didn't make it that much faster, but Aldi ones are still around the fastest ones.

While the speed is impressive, it also adds a lot to stress because the cashiers require you to get away as fast as possible.

Yes! I expected it to have this functionality. Dump stuff from the drying machine, get sorted, get folded.

What this machine claims to do is too little to be really worth the money and space it takes.

I'm by far not a measure of the bottom of the poor. I don't have kids (as single mother), I'm not addicted to alcohol or substances, I can manage my money well and I'm intelligent. That filters out a lot of the risk factors for real poverty. Also: I don't have any debt that needs to be paid off! So many people have, and it's easy to fall into debt.

It's easy to mess it up though. If you don't show up to appointments to the Jobcenter, they will give you less money. Suddenly you get 90% of the benefits (which is measured as minimum amount of money you need to survive per month). Do it again and you get only 60% for multiple months. Do it again, 30%. Still not showing up? They throw you out, including rent payments and health insurance.

Again, while I'm considered poor in the statistics, I'm not part of the group that's at risk of ending up without any benefits money or be homeless.

My city of about 260k population has over 900 homeless people according to the friendly volunteers of a homeless shelter. I know that because we sometimes bring food over to those places, if they're happy to accept it (not all of them do). That happens because I'm responsible for my town @ https://foodsharing.de/ - we rescue food from supermarkets that they'd throw into the bin otherwise. While being active there saves me some good cost of living, the amounts of food are huge and we have to distribute it too, mainly to homeless shelters in town.

Moving country is difficult. First, I'd need to change nationality, which is neither easy nor fast.

Then I have to see that I get my treatment continued in the other country. Hormones I'm getting paid, hair epilation I'm getting paid to half and my operation I'll get paid in Germany. But going to another country means I need to figure out how stuff goes, possibly get another therapist who knows about the process in that country, get the letters that I have either translated into their language or get new ones... it's not like there's any country that doesn't have a piece of doubt to any trans person unless you have lots of money and be able to pay it all yourself.
