The Guardian's headline is very misleading. Google's mission statement is not "don't be evil" - it's "to organise the world’s information and make it universally accessible and useful."

Larry Page is clearly referring to the mission statement that may need to change, not "Don't be evil." I read the headline as "Parents are eating the world and hurting innovation."

A "full investigation" is the law in California when sexual harassment claims are made. It's not an admission of anything, it's just literally the law.

Film editors will gobble these up.

There are tons of software companies run by sales people...they just all fail.

Anyone who thinks they should get a salary like that when you've only raised $250k should not be your CEO. Run away quickly. Don't even try to negotiate him down.

His point that Zappos isn't a technology company, but rather a customer service company makes Las Vegas the perfect fit. Las Vegas is the #1 city in the world for service industries.

The main thing for me was being able to pursue an idea no one would fund. I could self-fund it to the point where it was obvious people wanted it, at which point fundraising is easy.

And having done a few startups, I also had the confidence to not need anyone else to tell me it was a good idea. I just needed to build something customers would pay for. Those can be two very different things.

One thing to know that is somewhat unique to bone marrow transplants, is that you need a lot of people registered in order to find anyone who will match. It's not like you can go pay someone for their bone marrow and be done with it, you need to find that one person amongst millions.

That changes the incentives a lot. When you register, some day you may get a call that you are the one person in the world that can save someone's life.

Except they aren't called sites and groups any more. You're really underestimating how important labeling is.

EDIT: Lots of people want sites, lots of people want private groups, but no one wants a space simply because they don't know what that is.

If a computer had written this article, maybe it would have mentioned how useful this technology is for spammers.

How is Amazon not a platform? Completely leaving aside AWS (which the author does mention):

I wonder if there is a way to calculate the total cost of lost developer productivity due to Facebook bugs, changes, and bad documentation. I swear I spend way too much of my time dealing with it, and it sounds like everyone else does too.

The Constitution is not about direct democracy at all, it's setting up a parliamentary republic. And the drafting of it involved a lot of online feedback and participation, but was ultimately written by a committee of 25 people.

Some noteworthy aspects: It guarantees universal health care, the President is elected with preferential voting (where voters rank their choices 1,2,3,etc.), and to amend the Constitution, Parliament must pass a bill and then a vote is held within 1-3 months. It's also possible for Parliament to unilaterally amend the Constitution, but only with a 5/6th super super majority.

Thanks for the feedback. We definitely struggled with the overall positioning at launch. Our initial target is political campaigns and non-profits, mostly because they know they need this kind of a tool, and the current options are ridiculously expensive. For them, it's all about coordinating volunteers and engaging people in every channel possible.

But we also think, based on our background using political organizing to distribute documentaries, that there is a big market potential for independent creators as well, a market that will get very large. Authors, filmmakers, musicians, comedians, YouTubers, bloggers, etc.

Last I heard, Twitter has 200 million users. So that means the top 0.01% of users get 50% of all tweet impressions. Tweet wealth is 100x more concentrated than financial wealth in America.

It was clearly designed to be easy to hack, so they are not afraid of that. What they've really done is set a premium price on their content. Whether people pay it or not, everyone will now feel like the NYT is very high quality. That seems to be the intent.

Amazon is having problems, it's impacting Heroku and many others.
