7 years, or rather, more time than you expected is correct. Generally, success happens slowly. To succeed, just don't fail. If you keep your job, muddle along with your side business, avoiding debt, keeping your fixed costs low, and most importantly, survive, your customer base will grow and your competitors will melt away. If you are not luckier or earlier than others, you will still succeed by being more patient than others.

Just because an economist puts a name on an economic trend like "secondary post war depression" doesn't mean they understand it. The economy goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes down, it goes up, it goes down, economists usually don't know why or how.

I hope FBI is backtracking the serial numbers on these components and finding the diversions to Russia. Serialization similar to what the FDA mandates for drugs should be implemented by treaty for all NATO nations, and sanctions imposed on suppliers to Russia.

Rail isn't practical for some routes because the highways are maintained by the government but the tracks are maintained by the rail carriers.

Before the 19th Century, black powder was so incompletely combustible that firearms, despite allowing a huge amount of windage (the difference between the diameters of the barrel and the ball), would become too fouled to load after as few as 4 shots. That's why smoothbores were used long after the rifle was invented. During battles, soldiers peed down the barrel and used their ramrods to clean them.

I try to behave like the person I want to be, even though I know it's all a fraud. I try to see myself as I appear to others and try to exceed their expectations of me. I can't bury my ego, but I can hide it sometimes. Even from the people closest to me. Maybe that's not mentally healthy at all. But it helps me feel a little better.

Hence, the waiting lists are long for the Toyota plug-in hybrids while the Fords are available at $10K less... The consequences of bad decisions can reach far into the future.

That's only the problem you know about. The problem you don't know about is your TV is watching (and listening) to you. Put a cheap computer between your TV and the internet. Always buy the dumbest TV available. But dumb TVs now cost more than smart TVs. Dumb TVs make it difficult for the manufacturer to make money off you after the sale.

The Songbun caste system is the weakness that renders the North Korean society inherently unstable. The most able members of the society are discriminated against the most. And the more powerful and resource consuming "Core" members are not selected on the basis of merit. I think that there is historical precedent for the political principle that Aristocracy will eventually be replaced by meritocracy, but there may be revolutionary instability first.
