Yes, I use LinkedIn all the time to figure out who in my network knows someone else, so that I can background check someone before I walk into a meeting or ask for them to send a backchannel recommendation. Not for hiring, but for various other kinds of business deals. I don't use it at all for the social network stuff--I find that a complete waste of time. As a network map + living resume of people I'm meeting with it's fantastic.

This. I use LinkedIn all the time to identify who in my network is connected to the person I'm trying to reach.
As another Ansible user contemplating the 1.9-->2.0 migration, I'd appreciate if you would submit PRs updating the porting guide with stuff that you hit that wasn't already mentioned:https://github.com/ansible/ansible/blob/devel/docsite/rst/po...
Lektor belongs to a separate org and the project does not use any resources only I have access to (other than the domain name and the server travis-CI deploys to).
Really appreciate you starting it out this way from the getgo.
Because I run so many Open Source projects and maintenance of all of them turns out to be tricky I figured I do this better this time around.
Looking forward to seeing Flask & Flask-SQLAlchemy moved to a dedicated Flask org on github. Ideally with another person or two having Pypi creds for pushing releases.
SQLAlchemy - Great docs, well programmed, very extensible/flexible/powerful.
I'd be curious to see this as well
There is also the "poor man's nest" - the Filtrete 3M 50 which is $89 on Ebay and fully wifi supported with a well-documented API and fantastic Android app:

This really shouldn't be a surprise as there are generally very smart people on both sides of polarizing issues.
I know a lot of smart people, myself included, who read HN regularly and oppose gay marriage.
On the one hand, you're completely right.
On the other, who better to say "You just don't understand the power of the platform" than someone who sees the numbers on over 10,000 Facebook pages with more than 1Billion Facebook fans?
If Cuban said "I don't understand the platform" that's one thing, but saying "This platform doesn't work" is claiming it's not an education problem, it's a platform power problem
We live in an attention economy, and Facebook is simply the arbiter of it. If Facebook let all fan pages reach all their fans, it'd be a sub-optimal user experience.
The fact that they have turned protecting against the tragedy of the commons into a monetization model may not make brands happy, but it makes users happy.

Not sure what you mean here.
Do you mean when will we offer G+ analytics, or confusing us with website analytics? (we measure social media)
on LinkedIn, twitter couldn't control the inventory, so they couldn't monetize the content.
It was their tradeoff of reducing usage while users are on LI, while hopefully increasing consumption on their own site from those users.
It's certainly a gamble, since I'd argue that LI was more a source of new twitter users rather than siphoning off views from already loyal twitter users.
The other possible threat in Twitter's head might have been LI bootstrapping their newsfeed off Twitter (which they'd mostly been doing) and then growing it large enough to actively compete with Twitter.
Twitter wants to "own" the consumer end of the experience so they can monetize it with display ads.
If you watch over the past six months, they've actively encouraged third-party publishers so businesses get more invested in twitter, while simultaneously discouraging third-party consumer-focused clients.
The question in my head about this data:
Is the spike because LinkedIn traffic actually spiked, or was it just getting misattributed as Twitter traffic?

...we had a contest very early on at Apple where we awarded an extra Apple for the unusual use of the machine.
The winner, and what we never realized then, and what we don't think is still true now, is you don't realize how many different ways it can impact you.
The first use was the person that swore by it, a new father who had a new son that the colic, and took the original Apple II, did his own software, hooked up a washing machine motor, the tilt mechanism from a pinball machine, a microphone to the crib. So when the kid was getting restless, the machine would come on and rock the bed.
He actually had statistics to show how much more sleep he and his wife were getting because the kid would partly wake up, then go back to sleep. And that won first prize for a different use of the Apple, and I think that's still true today. People are still finding uses. You put it out in one area, and then it gets out into a lot of others.
drop me a line at jeff@pagelever.com - I've got some tasks you might find interesting.
I've interned with TechStars, TechCrunch, Seth Godin, etc--so i have some experience with what it's like to be an intern in a startup situation...
I'm not the guy behind it, but I laughed aloud for 5 min straight while reading all the past tweets...
(my wife didn't get any of the jokes)
It's spring--which means students are thinking about internships & resumes.
You don't have to do it by the book--I built this originally for Seth back in '08, then realized I wanted to intern a few other places as well, so I sent them each a copy with a customized "Why do you want to work here?" speech bubble.
Landed me a summer externship with Seth, the month of August doing odd-jobs at TechStars, and November thru January working at TechCrunch.
You're totally right.
Just got a phone call from my sister... she totally punk'd me. Now the ENTIRE office is rolling on the ground laughing...
Of all people, my non-techy sister!
I thought there was something about where if we're legitimately using the name, then even if we don't file the trademark, no one can come along after us and file for it... am I wrong?
Thx--I checked that, and nothing for PageLever or Page Lever appears.
Anyone have know an article that can walk me through the process of filing a trademark?
(I'll probably have our lawyer do it, but I want to make sure I understand the process)

ekanes--Have you looked into setting these up like freeconferencecall.com where it dead-ends the calls out of a rural area so you can collect subsidies? (Not a fan of the legislation, but if it exists you can leverage it.)
Not sure how you'd do this using Twilio, but rather than routing the user straight to the number, you could route the user to the rural number and then place an outbound call from teh rural conference number and patch the two together
Do you have a portfolio??
I was on my honeymoon in Hawaii and we didn't put together the application until after I got married, so we used two webcams and spliced 'em together...
For every three domains I buy, I probably keep one longer htan a year. And only half of those stay longer than two years (1/6). But those that last longer than two years are generally gonna stay around for a while--I bought them because I like the name, not because of a project sitting in my mind. Eg, AffinityScore.com just has a nice ring to it and would make a nice social ranking product or services business. (If you google "Affinity score" it's most often used by people describing EdgeRank...)
