The ad for Minecraft Earth, reminds me of a cyberpunk novel, Spook Country, by William Gibson.

In the novel, there are layers of augmented reality where people have put their mark on the world with AR Dioramas scattered through-out the world. In the book, AR scenes might depict historical events, art, or information.

Based on revenue and flat growth, the company is worth about $4 a share. If it get's to that price I'll think about buying in, if and only if i think the company is going to turn it around.

I've made good money waiting for the time to be right before buying in. This stock is worthless above $8 a share.

Yeah, I basically want both the CPU and the GPU to be FinFET for a mobile laptop, that is VR ready/ Skylake + nvidia 970 or better.

Anyone know when the Mobile Fiji, Polaris, Zen, Pascal hardware is coming out?

I love AMD and I'm rooting for them, but I'm not sure we are going to have another Athlon run here.

AMD is still having trouble beating out nVidia, and Intel. The Zen architecture could in theory have HBM for the system CPU/APU, but I'm guessing they won't.

Finally A lot of Intel performance comes from compiler optimization and design, and last time with Athlon it took years for that to roll out. Unless Zen is years ahead of Intel, I don't know if they will be able to edge that far ahead. Intel has been doing CPU-GPU pairs now for more than 5 years, and they are getting better.

I think for AMD to win this round, they would need to have a power ratio that allowed them to dominate the laptop space, with APUs and eliminate the GPU as a component, and right now AMD and Intel are both on 14nm, so I think it would be hard to win there, but we will see.

nVidia is on the 16nm process, so if AMDs chips are equal in performance, they might draw less power. However, for VR, nVidia has been working very closely on the software with the various companies and I think they will have a strong software advantage for a while.

Maybe this is a good thing. Maybe, the community can take it back. It's unfortunate that it won't have a strong internal identity though.

I was looking into doing a Pipes 2.0 sort of project. If you live in the bay area i'd love to get coffee and chat about it. There are a number of the pieces to pipes that are opensource, but none of them are strung together.

I also thought that pipes queries were amazing, but slow, so it was hard to use them as part of an application.

I'm a little disappointed Apple, the new MBP doesn't have a top of the line graphics card, and it's still stuck to 16GB of ram. This is hardly a pro option.

Getting YC Partner Buy-In sounds like pledging a fraternity.

There is more to a person than the hours they spend at work. A whole person has taken the time to consider the grander things in life, they plan ahead and are considerate. They take care of their family and friends, and they participate in the community.

There are companies out there like 37signals that feel that working too many hours a week actually injures productivity. For years I worked at startups working 50-60 hours a week, but recently I started working at a consulting company where I might have 35-40 billable hours a week of work and I have never felt more productive. I think there are ways management can increase productivity without asking people in the information age to work more hours. The truth is, if you are a programmer and you love to solve problems those challenges sit with you after you 'clock-out' you think about them on your commute home and while you prepare dinner while you relax and unwind.

Archenemies even invented volumetric math while in a bath tub, and many people claim to have brilliant ideas in the shower. I think the notion of confining someone to an office or a chair to work is the least productive thing you can do.

Give your team the space to let their mind expand into and inspire them to solve good problems. Focus your efforts on the right tasks and you will see your productivity increase. Provide people with good tools and you can see their craftsmanship improve. Acting as a manager, your job is to tackle the challenges that are holding back your team.

I think a lot of the stagnation of this nation is based on Americans overworking themselves, and in exchange we have sold short our family, friends, and community. We have sacrificed short term gains for the long term security of our culture. Imagine if we had more time to spend in our communities articulating our needs to our peers, working out our differences and solving problems. We would have stronger communities and greater accord with our neighbors. We could become a united nation again that was empathetic with our local needs. We would have the margin and freedom to explore big things as a nation and we could take ownership in what our nation sets out to achieve.

I don't know if that means intra-home streaming or inter-home streaming. Basically i'm not sure if that means Valve/Steam is doing what nVidia, AMD, MS, and onLive are doing or if they are doing something else.

It funds the surveillance state, and gives them a slippery slope statement. Why not put these as sporting events, a other government buildings, in schools? Or on street corners and then randomly or not so randomly ask citizens to go in them.

I like how uncomfortable the TSA guy feels about grabbing my junk, because that's how uncomfortable I feel about my constitutional rights being violated. It's a constant reminder to TSA staff that what they are doing is wrong.

Agreed, I don't know how you are going to cool that thing quietly or cheaply. I think the thermal load would be less on two cpu chips running at 2/3-rds the GHz. It might be cheaper to build as well.
