Everything is priced the same. And it’s Detroit, Minneapolis, Austin, LA, and 100 people towns everywhere.

The US prices are the same as the Canadian prices, despite their dollar being worth 30% more.

I’m Canadian, but frequently travel in the US. Over the past year I am also shocked at US prices. It used to be that everything in the US was about 25% cheaper (makes sense as their dollar is worth more). Lately I’ve noticed that everything is priced the same. And I mean exactly the same.

On work trips over the past year I’ve had to buy tools at Home Depot, supplies at IKEA and Walmart, groceries, hotel, etc. I was in both large and small cities on the east and West coast … and the pricing is the same.

The drill I bought for $279 USD is $279 CAD. The IKEA cabinet I got for $199USD is $199CAD, etc..

Note sure what is going on with US prices, but Canadian making $17/hr minimum wage are struggling. I can’t imagine how Americans do it..

And just for context … if medication is not covered and has to be paid out of pocket, the cost is generally under $100. Canadians don’t have $1000 medical costs

Canadian (OHIP recipient) here. As a long time employer, and former employee, I can tell you that no one takes a job here for the heath care. Some things like dental and vision are not covered (unless you are under 18, over 65, or low income), but everything else is. Over the course of a decade my father in law had 3 heart attacks, a stroke, and ultimately lost a year long battle with lung cancer. The total health care bill to him (or his employer) was $0.

Now the downside … because health care is free, everyone uses it and the wait times are longer. My grandfather recently required an MRI (non life threatening). The wait time in Ontario was 3 months. He drove to the USA, paid out of pocket, and had it done within in week …

This is most likely to do with changing viewing habits. Very little YouTube is watched on a monitor anymore. In fact for most channels it is 40% mobile, 40% on a TV and 20% other. I’m guessing the new format is to optimize for the TV viewer as this is also the fastest growing segment.

I don't believe this is specific to Raves, but Bars & Nightclubs in general.

Younger people don't seem to be going to these places nearly as much as generations past. I think a lot of this drop off can be attributed to Social Media & Tinder.

You don't need to go out to see your friends or find a date. So why bother? It's easier and cheaper to stay home.

Everyone pointing out that their illegal streams, X streams, etc. work fine are kind of missing the point.

These secondary streams might be serving a couple thousand users at best.

Initial estimates are in the hundreds of millions for Netflix. Kind of a couple of orders of magnitude difference there.

Because that isn’t different or new enough to get investors excited.

The point of this presentation was not to spell out technically how they are going to accomplish this. Agreed, a fleet of model 3s would work great.

The point of this presentation was to look like a cool visionary tech company that is going to change the world, to justify that your Market cap is now larger than EVERY OTHER MAJOR AUTOMAKER COMBINED!

Same reason the prototypes need to look like they were lifted from Blade Runner.

When did you last have them come out? They used to be awesome, but cut the mobile fleet in my area as part of the cost saving measures this past July.

I’ve long maintained that what the USA really needs is a good opponent again.

Everyone wants to be on a winning team, and with the lack of a good opponent it’s turned into Republicans vs Democrats with no common ground.

At least up until the 1990s there was always a common opponent (the English, the Spanish, the Prussians/Germans, the Soviets). So while Americans had different views, they could at least focus on defeating the enemy together.

Now there is no more enemy, and they turn on each other. I guess old habit are hard to break.

As a Tesla owner I can promise you there will never be reasonable human assistance infrastructure.

Have to ever tried to get in touch with a human at Tesla short of driving to a service center. Almost impossible. It would be easier for me to get the president on the line.

Having just purchased a new Tesla, I tried for 2 weeks to communicate with Tesla prior to purchase. The closest I even got was a phone tree, which after 7 levels sent me to a voicemail box that was full. Am I’m talking every day for 14 days. Had my wife not wanted it so bad I would have cancelled my deposit on the spot.

I requested service on it last week. The earliest service date is Nov. 12. I have yet to hear from an advisor on the app.

Tesla does a lot of things right, but supporting their products with actual humans is not one of them..

I disagree completely. Letting it drive is the exact same as teaching my 16 year old kid to drive. It’s nice to let them take the wheel, but you never know when there going to make a mistake and almost crash into traffic.

I also have a 2024 Tesla with FSD, but stopped trusting it. Here’s the thing, it works great for 30-40 minutes, until it doesn’t and makes a completely wrong move almost causing an accident without user intervention. And yes, I’m talking about v12.5.1

In the last month, it’s driven onto grass where there used to be an off ramp that was redone last year, cut across 3 lanes of highway traffic within 200 feet of an off ramp, and almost ran a semi truck off the road (yes, we had the right of way, but he weighs 20,000 lbs and was in no way going to be able to stop in time).

It a cool toy to show off when you’re being hyper vigilant about keeping an eye on it, but there is no way it should be allowed on the public roads yet.

I 1000% would advise against purchasing it unless you have the extra cash and want to try it out. It’s not even close to production ready.

I think there is a very good chance that exactly zero Cybertrucks are used as actual work trucks.

You have to admire the marketing when they can convince their fans that not clear coating a vehicle is a feature not a bug.

It wouldn’t even look different or cost all that much. The only downside is you would be able to leave it parked outside.

The current Canadian government can’t seem to screw up the Internet fast enough for Canadians.

Between this law, Bill C-11, and Bill S-210 they have gotten off to a pretty good start.

I have found that North American divisions of Japenese companies will be setup the same way. The managers sit at the front facing into the room. All of their subordinates will be facing towards them.

Toyota sticks out in my mind, only because of the scale of the room. There were hundreds of desks in one large open space, and if you looked up from your desk you could see every last one of them. But I’ve seen it in other smaller Japenese companies as well.

Having worked in the custom manufacturing machinery business a long time I would guess that they ironically cheaped out but purchasing all their equipment overseas. There are extremely knowledgeable machine builders in the USA and Canada (think rust belt) that have been building equipment like this since the 1950s (think automotive sway bars, coil springs, etc), but over the last decade you see a lot companies trying to purchase their equipment from former eastern block countries or China to save money. Nothing against Belarus, but I guarantee there are USA machine builders that could have got this up and running (for more money of course).

Search for any popular title on Amazon and down the list you will always find "imposter books", with similar titles, author names and cover designs. Sometimes they blatantly use the authors copyrights, but usually they are just different enough to avoid being taken down. With Amazon not publishing the book until a copy is ordered, there is really no cost of the sellers part ... and if you can get 100 customers to buy the wrong book by mistake ...

My point is that is kind of work is already all over Amazon. The only thing that is changing is there is new production method. But when you can pay someone is a low cost county $10 to make the work, the cost is negligible.

Great… Except Steel, Concrete, Plastics, and Ammonia production all require fossil fuels and we do not have any alternative. We also do not have a viable alternative for air travel, or large scale shipping. While I think it is a worthwhile goal to pursue clean energy technologies, we are a very long way (with no known alternative) from getting rid of fossil fuels.

Almost every large manufacturing facility has vehicles for their maintenance staff. Sometimes they use golf carts. Sometimes they use tricycles.

An automotive assembly plant can easily be 10 million square feet.

Of course the official response is what you would expect:

I think the issue is the ease of getting users banned, and the lack of actual moderating at all that is the problem. It literally is as easy as fill out the form, user is automatically banned, no verification required. Microsoft is not actually enforcing anything.

My son is 10 and has been playing Minecraft for most of his life. I would consider him quite good at it. I sometimes watch. Every couple of months one of his friends will get banned for no reason. Usually the reason is profanity in the chat, even though they play with the chat off and are FaceTiming on the side with each other. It turns out that the system is so easy to manipulate that other users (kids) will report them just because they don’t like how the game went.

Basically spoiled kids will say if you don’t do what I want then I’m reporting all of you and getting you banned. And they do. Microsoft doesn’t actually verify the claims, just blanket bans all of them.

So the kids create a new account, and keep playing. It just seems like something that is perfectly natural to them. It does mean that I would never spend a dollar on anything Minecraft related though.

As a Canadian I have only know completely socialized healthcare.

One of our largest problems right now is that our system is failing and can’t keep up.

The solutions being rolled out by the provinces to fix the huge backlog of people waiting for care is to privatize more of the service delivery (while keeping single payer).
