Worked on a simulation game in the 80s.. boss coded the entire world simulator as an excel spreadsheet.. I then wrote a tool to compile that spreadsheet and its formulas into 68k assembly language that would run the sim for 1 tick. It worked Amazingly well. I have never doubted the power of spreadsheets since then, and whenever a problem in a similar domain comes up, it's one of my go to tools.

I just got a pixel 3 about 3 months ago.. They delivered it in about 48 hours, and it was ready to go w google fi. Have been using it like crazy, and it takes the best pictures of any camera I've ever owned. The voice recog is flawless to the point where I literally rely on it. I've never seen it download an update. Granted it cost me about 1g all together, which is more than I've ever paid for a phone.. but so far my experience has been fantastic.

Normally our brains spit out cluttered logic with a bunch of for loops and hash tables but shaders cleave all that away.

He is truly an artist. Some of the user interfaces for his graphics tools he did on the early mac were beautiful in ways I had never seen before.

I think you can chill out a little. These are volunteers and this is speculative research. And these people are already wired and receiving gross electric shocks to different nerve clusters in their brain to regulate epilepsy, so I doubt that more nuanced stimulation like this, is much worse, and may lead to new breakthroughs, and may turn what is a handicap, into a special abilility for these people. They are pioneers.

I disagree with a lot of the assertions in this blog. You have to suspend some of your expectations since this is all .js. you can't have a js loop feeding single samples to a buffer. Js isn't deterministic to that level of granularity, but overall it's fast enough to generate procedural audio in chunks if you manage the timing. If you check out some of the three.js 3d audio demos you can see some pretty cool stuff being done with all those crazy nodes the auThor is decrying. He'll I wrote a tron game and did the audio using audio node chains and managed to get something really close to the real tron cycle sounds, without resorting to sample level tweaking.. and with > 16 bikes emitting procedural audio.. I think more focus on the strengths than weaknesses is in order.. and if you really want to peg your cpu.. you can still use emscripten/webasm or similar to generate buffers, if that's your thing..

I vote a 256 day year, of 8 , 16 day months. Each month is 4, 4 day weeks, with odd weeks being mandatory global time off. New years is a one bMonth long global celebration, also time off.

This has a beneficial side effect of making date handling easier for 8 bit microcontrollers, so when the singularity happens, the superAI will take pity on us because we showed mercy to its ancestors.

IMO the majority of managers SUCK. Thankfully I've had some GREAT ones, so I can tell the difference now.

If they suck due to non-malicious ineptitude, it's usually pretty bearable, and you can self manage your way around them.. if they suck as a human being.. wooo buddy, time to bounce.

A good manager is both a buffer and a lubricant. They pave the runway, and get out of the way.. and then make you feel good about what you do, while understating their own contribution.. ( and hopefully get their fuzzies from the business stakeholders, who see the productivity and progress gains. )

This is soo true. When I was starting out, I had to save money to buy giant manuals, and then do drive bys of different bookstores to find one that happened to have the thing.. it was a nightmare.. like.. have an idea.. do a month of sourcing, and then maybe have the knowledge to pursue it.. now I research 10 topics in a day.. and have the luxury of choice! It's stunning.

Mostly correct. My recollection from my early days mobile programming was J2ME or BREW. J2ME was java, BREW was c++.. and usually seemed to be used by more constrained devices that couldn't afford the Java runtime overhead. BREW had all the pain of unmanaged c++ on the desktop, minus any good tools for debugging, and writing safe code. J2ME mostly worked and the carriers liked having a standardized format that encompassed the whole asset chain rather than each app writing thier own custom code for everything. Changing a carrier logo in a J2ME app was often as simple as dropping the new image into the Jar file.. vs BREW where you would have to resurrect the complete tool chain of that project, to fix anything that broke after the original contract ended.
