What a flex.

So how does one find these sorts of clients?
Maybe my daily work is rather mundane compared to most people who frequent HN but I am able to create, think about, refine and then go through review cycles at least 2 or 3 times more quickly than I used to.
And software that I can imagine I might want to "make" or have at my fingertips is readily available even though I have a busy schedule with very little free time!
Also, I love feeling like a manager whose direct report actually does what I tell it to. Crazy good feeling.
The person you are replying to is all over this thread to such an extent that I think they should take their abundance of energy and apply it to becoming a commercial pilot so that they can ignore anything that aligns with their personal preferences.
For me the big hangup is the hardware. If I could find a simple guide to putting together a machine that I can run off an outlet in my home, I am sold. The problem is that I haven't found this yet (though I suppose I haven't looked very hard either).
You raise 3rd world risks and act like they apply to Japan. In Japan your very own data shows < 0.01%.
One uncomfortable truth is that being younger is better when it comes to starting a family.
This is a bit of an anti-evolutionary perspective. At some point in our past, we were something much less intelligent than we are now. Our intelligence didn't spring out of thin air. Whether or not AI can evolve is yet to be seen I think.
Agreed. This is a great way to handle common chores.
It has to be a "my time is worth more than your time" flex.
Is there still no way to ssh into an instance? If not, then github actions needs to work on that.
Look up the origin of the word slave. Your world view is myopic.
I only hope that our field becomes heavier in the upper age category. Then maybe people will be more sympathetic towards my fumbles around languages I use frequently. ... I feel like I am always looking something up.
Well I wouldn't characterize they guys work as half baked. I am rather shocked by how vast and deep his knowledge base appears to be. I guess the struggle for me personally I no longer feel like I bring anything valuable to the table and since this guy is very aggressive about being the first to answer anything I find myself giving up. I have kids and other duties and I just ... I guess I am getting old.
Now how do I deal with an engineer who seems to be brilliant - though this is sometimes hard to gauge since code quality can be subjective - who always leaps in to answer things quicker and is loved by upper management because he, I guess, constantly codes even outside of work hours, but who is extremely grating to get along with. Lord I need a different job.
I would say no because microsoft seems to have a magical ability to over-complicate systems, UIs, etc. Not to mention the fact that they were out to crush Linux not so many years ago (through proxies even!). Trusting them to make good, unix-like choices seems ill-informed.
The constant churn.
This is simultaneously funny and sad. I wonder when alcoholism will get a front row seat during zoom meetings (or even IRL meetings). "Can't help it hick I'm an alcoholic".
I think a lot of societal change these days can be summarized by the idea that self-labeling is seen as transforming something into "everyone else's problem".
I would like to know what sort of AI is trained to do this.
I have very similar problems with remembering "events" that people typically like to share. I have traveled to many memorable places (for those who are able to) but my recollection in terms of details that would move a conversation forward is sparse at best. It is really frustrating to be honest. My memory problem spills into work and tech and makes me wonder if I am going to be able to employ myself for the next 20 years (as I need to) or not. The deluge of details and the constant change ... it is exhausting.
I can type at the incredible level of 70wpm.
With the long tail, maybe repeat the same slotted pattern forming a triangle (of sorts) so that the tail can be shorter (and will be elevated from the ground). Just be careful not to make it too narrow.
Andor is OK. I didn't manage to finish the first season though and there are a few scenes - like the "training to blend in" - that are just totally corny and just seem "cheap".
I disagree with the sentiment that Andor goes beyond the original trilogy. The world building in the originals is incredible.
I'm a bit jealous. I currently work with an exceptional engineer but he is very condescending and acts somewhat pissed off by "simple" questions or people asking for help. The product is fantastic thanks to his work and I am learning, I think, what it really means to attempt to write excellent code - he really nit picks the hell out of my PRs - but to be honest I wish I didn't have to work with him. He has really demotivated me.
It sounds like the primary issue is being rich. I'm pretty sure I can help you with that.
So which country is it that fits your model and you can point to as an example?
Lots of people are going to push back against your statement - I personally agree with you. This is all about continuing our species and everyone else trying to weave some different tale is simply living in la-la land.
The sites that genuinely need a react frontend are fewer than the sites that use a react frontend. If you forgo react from the start, you have simplicity. At most, track your "state" in a session cookie + "rendering" on the backend. The good old days. I miss them.
I think that any loving, financial well couple would discover the same, but all I hear from younger people is excuses as to why kids are a burden. It drives me a bit crazy.
I cannot put my finger on why I dislike this comment so deeply but I am a parent and I suspect you are not.
To be specific I dislike your framing and use of the word "forced". I do agree though that parents should deeply love and support their kids which is what it sounds like you are trying to say. And in turn, your kids should do the same despite "generational differences".
I entirely agree. And when you lather on the tidal wave of endless "entertainment" and options available to most people they end up framing everything in their minds as "having fun" vs "having kids". I also know many women who say they don't want to "do that to their bodies" so ... where is this all going.
And honestly I agree with the "if you are single you should pay more taxes" as a motivator to either get you to have your own kids or to simply ease the burden of those who are actually making humanity move forward but as a parent I am a bit biased here. It should be a significant amount.
