Any response to the comments pointing out this is illegal in CA? Isn’t the Baremetrics office in SF?

Are you really saying that it's harder to be a techie than LGBT in San Francisco?
The complaint also alleges that Facebook sought to channel jobs to temporary visa holders at the expense of U.S. workers by failing to advertise those vacancies on its careers website, requiring applicants to apply by physical mail only, and refusing to consider any U.S. workers who applied for those positions. In contrast, Facebook’s usual hiring process relies on recruitment methods designed to encourage applications by advertising positions on its careers website, accepting electronic applications, and not pre-selecting candidates to be hired based on a candidate’s immigration status, according to the lawsuit. In its investigation, the department determined that Facebook’s ineffective recruitment methods dissuaded U.S. workers from applying to its PERM positions. The department concluded that, during the relevant period, Facebook received zero or one U.S. worker applicants for 99.7 percent of its PERM positions, while comparable positions at Facebook that were advertised on its careers website during a similar time period typically attracted 100 or more applicants each. These U.S. workers were denied an opportunity to be considered for the jobs Facebook sought to channel to temporary visa holders, according to the lawsuit.
Facebook was not actively working to remove those un-equal terms. They set up a separate, physical-mail only pipeline for these candidates, and denied any US Citizens who applied using the obscure pipeline.
This could be huge for the ecosystem. For example, there are ways to use third-party iMessage clients (e.g. through Matrix) that require you to keep a server running on your local macOS machine signed in to your AppleID - this could let developers create hosted versions of those services
"Employee slacking" is not illegal, but wage theft is.
Ah missed that, thanks
I've been following Purism for a month or so, and I love the idea of the Librem 5, but is the phone really going to be worth $2,000?
I actually noticed this the other day. I set a 10 minute time limit on Instagram, and while I'll get the "5 minutes left" reminder, it won't kick me out of the app the way it does for other apps. Running iOS 14.2.
You get the experience you curate for self. If the people you followed were toxic, it’s not Twitter’s fault you didn’t unfollow them!
We had 70 engineers at in a Slack channel work trying to figure out the issue before someone found a Twitter thread about it
Did you read the article? The Times now employs more people than it ever has and is doing better financially than ever.
If you read the actual lines, he said he's moving away from software and into the arts
Contact tracing should not be the the responsibility of the individual, it should be the responsibility of the government (with cooperation of the individual of course). This is how Asian countries have succeeded at it. The US isn't even trying yet - I still don't think I can even get a rapid test where I live.
Exactly this - but this is why conservatives routinely defund education.
An energy investor who doesn't support the GND? What a surprise
Our US compensation will be tied to pay ranges of high-cost areas such as SF and NY, regardless of where employees live
This is exactly how it should be, kudos to Reddit. Major tech companies taking advantage of employees relocating to lower-CoL areas completely ignores that the value they bring to the company doesn't change at all.
Still I wonder if it has failure modes that humans lack
Almost certainly :)
LIDAR maps out the world around you in three dimensions, so with that data, there's no way it would mistake "a 'Stop' sign hidden within a fast food commercial [...] only flashing on-screen for a fraction of a second" (article) for an actual stop sign
Through legislation. Market forces don’t care about the environment, just profitability. That’s where the government is supposed to come in...
Most folks expenses aren't dropping by 20%. I've been remote since March, but my rent/life/expenses (key) hasn't changed. If anything, I'm paying more now for utilities and food since I'm home all the time.
We'll see! There are so many problems with wireless charging that I don't see it becoming truly mainstream. Not being able to use your phone while charging is the most visible one (maybe 15W via magsafe will make it fast enough it doesn't matter). I also have trust issues with wireless charging in general - I got a free wireless charger from TripleByte once that overheated my phone and only got it to 60%. I'm still hoping for USB-C
MagSafe is really cool, but I'm incredibly disappointed they're sticking with lightning...
But there are higher priorities than those, like growing better humans.
I grew up in a suburban bordering on semi-rural area, and while I do think living in a rural region certainly has it's benefits (like the ones you describe), implying it by default "grows better humans" than those living in an urban area is ridiculous.
What are "normal people" are addicted to on Instagram, likes? I only follow people I consider actual friends and I can't think of any people I follow that would be like that, but maybe that just has to do with who I hang out with?
To an extent, yes https://www.reddit.com/r/xboxinsiders/comments/cj5b0a/what_h...
There is no incentive to reuse plastic when it's less expensive to use virgin material.
I mean, the environment should be reason enough, but manufacturers don’t care about that
A couple of theories regarding the ultimate fate of our universe are the Big Crunch (everything comes together) or the Big Freeze (everything drifts apart, forever). I agree that it's not hard to imagine that if a Big Crunch happened it could potentially create another Big Bang. That said, there's still no way to necessarily prove that.

Why do you care whether or not it's cost effective to hire a foreign UI tester? That has zero correlation with whether or not its cost effective to hire someone with experience at CERN. Your hypothetical lists 2 different profiles that would be hired for vastly different jobs, and it seems like you only care that one of them is fucked over - is it just a strawman for racism? Can you point to any actual examples of CERN interns being passed over in favor of foreign UI testers?
The changes described in the article do not change your hypothetical whatsoever.
