Ha! Lake Havasu City is largely where I grew up -- fun to see a link in HN. Havasu is a huge party town, so often throughout the summer you'd see hundreds of boats and drunk partiers around the bridge. Really weird sight.

The movie Piranha 3D was filmed in Havasu. Don't remember if they feature the bridge.

Just want to preface this: the following contains a giant wad of sarcastic tone and is mildly accosting; this comes from my own internal dialogue with myself about this same issue. My internal voice doesn't take my real voice very seriously. It's not meant to be unkind whatsoever.

There's something called Y-Generation; you're it.

Good for you, you think you're special. And your friends all think they're special. Guess what? I think I'm the most special of everyone. Yup... this is our plight, and frankly, we just need to get the hell over it. :)

If I really believe I'm capable of doing great things (which I do), then there's no reason I shouldn't be doing them. But for some reason... shrug Excuses -- my biggest one, ultimately, is that because I think I'm sooooo smart, and capable of suuuuch grand things, I'm scared shitless of trying and failing and realizing that maybe I'm not quite as exceptional as I thought. Poor little baby ego, awwww.... Keep putting up a front though.

You managed to say the sentence "Thus, I have picked up another job which I'll join in a few weeks." Do you have friends who don't work in tech? Like, for real? Normally... in the real world... you don't just "pick up" a job as if you were going shopping. Spoiled goddamn brats, the whole bunch of us!

My suggestion is to go find a local pub with good staff and good regulars that you can relate to. Go there more and more often until you're blowing all your money getting tanked every night of the week. If you keep that up long enough, and then push it just a little bit longer, you'll either figure out you're exactly where you belong, or you'll get so fed up that you'll end up back exactly where you are now. But this time you'll have something to run away from.

Because most of the people in the startup community are uninspired wannabe dreamers filled with shallow ambitions of the social acceptance they know, deep down, they don't particularly deserve of their own personal merit. It's our club and you're not cool enough.

That's what I'm thinking, anyway.

You want condescending? 'cause his blog post wasn't. Look, like if you're fucking happy right now, great! But if you have a reaction to his post that makes you feel attacked, belittled, then there very well might be a good reason for that. And boy, it ain't nothin' on the author.

There's a lot of shit that adds up. Booze is a serious killer. Cigarettes are goddamn expensive. Clothes pile up in cost...

Seriously. Wtf with all these threatened responses, projections of the realizations of their sad silly lives.

Oh yeah, oops, I totally just did that.

Open source the app. There's a huge lacking in good web based open source mail clients. Fill it. Offer a pay-for premium hosted version. Have us pay for service, not software.

If you released this, assuming it doesn't suck balls, I'd be running it immediately. I'm currently using Rackspace for my email hosting; check them out. They're good, good be better. ;)

Yeah, so call me a troll if you want. I'm kinda enjoying my negative scores.

I'm astonished though that any of this is "surprising news." It's kinda like filing a bug report: "Rage/Doom/etc cause high CPU usage, PLZ FIX." Uhm, yeah.

There are a number of different algorithms for drawing blur. Some of them are high quality but require more iterations for larger radii, some are much faster and "scale" quite well but aren't of nearly the same high quality.

Of course putting complex effects that are computed on the CPU are going to be slow -- at least just a tiny litte little.

Actually, they're all asses. Sorry Lenny, Beau... The truth has gotta get out. :P

Naw, they're awesome dudes and they'll be missed in Montréal. Who else but Lenny can we put all of out name tags onto by the end of every Startup Drinks ?
