Jobs for devs are everywhere that's not what makes a city "startup hub imho.
The only "real" startup hubs are the ones where venture capital is available and these would traditionally be the cities in North America, China, Singapore etc.

Same in Korea and Singapore and I doubt it's any different in China. You work for the sake of working not because you have something that urgently needs to be taken care of.
It's ineffective. Lots of asian nations that work overtime are doing it pointlessly because they are already exhausted and do not really contribute that much.
That is very much a false dichotomy. Your german products are of good quality but largely overvalued and this shows when Trump threatens with tariffs ;). There is actually very little that makes as much money for the germans and is not directly connected to a field where german companies have a specific monopoly. I hope you are joking right now and know how borrowing public and private money works.
Your inability to understand the subject is astounding.
Funny how you demand from me to show you numbers when you are not doing so yourself .. but what can i expect from a german right ? ;)
My point was never about commies mooching off the great capitalists so again you missed this one as well. The point was that the european economies gained its wealth and glory by employing capitalist practiced in the countries of 2nd and 3rd world while pretending moral superiority and bad mouthing countries like the US or China.
I did in Norway :-).
Seriously picking a car industry which is and always had been different in the US than in Eu is a shitty example to prove a point. If it would not be for your liberal americans throwing billions at your german cars they would be nothing compared to what they are now. Ever been to SK ? How many non korean cars have you seen ?
The entire IT industry dwarfs everything Europe has or will have in the next decades and still it is just a fraction of the US of A produces or trades with the world.
Besides Germany is your China of europe dumping shit to weaker markets en masse. Just looking at the list of largest german companies gives you a hint of how Germany really operates.
Where and how are the german companies beating the US ?
US wealth is borrowed wealth ? From whom did they borrow it then ?
I have just sold my 1m$ property to move from Europe to the US. Seriously Europe is a fucked up place and I aint coming back.
That sounds promising. I think it's important to keep community in loop and make sure people are aware of limitations and what's already possible and supported.
I know that you are using Rails as a reference point so is there any ETA when will be most of the features usable ? (openssl,activerecord,nokogiri..etc) ?
This is seriously huge. I wonder if it actually gets popular.
Can anyone comment on TruffleRuby ? What remains to be done for it to be production ready ? GraalVM page still mentions it's experimental.
Thank god americans respect free speech.
The grass is always greener on the other side. Being born in Europe and living here is suffocating me.
Apple to me is not a software / services company. They failed to make Swift popular and imho it will just artificially keep Swift alive while everyone else will be using RN,Xamarin and similar.
I always chuckle when people put so much trust in "startup" companies. It's the same like believing in IBM not trying to screw you over.
There's a reason why people and businesses hate vendor lock ins. There's a reason why we do not want AWS to reign supreme for long.
Gold is valuable because of its chemical properties and as long as there is a demand for high tech electronics and jewellery it will continue to be so.
The other problem is that most electron apps are incredibly big. I do not want to download 150mb single purpose apps. The memory hog is not the only it's also the battery drain most electron apps suffer from.
If you compare Finda to something like voidtool's Everything it's night and day.
vmware guests with powershell and jenkins
My current phone is iphone 7+ and ios feels like getting slower and worse every update. I am really keen on trying out galaxy s9
I do not think gmail is an excellent product. For me it's backed by a giant that guarantees its availability and functionality almost anywhere in the world (looking at you China). I would use something else in a blink of an eye.
In other words water is wet. The Eu benefits the strongest predator ( the german conglomerates ). We can see it all over the europe how mainly germans bought and bribed everyone they could.
I do not know I do not live in France.
We got free healthcare in europe that i pay for with atrociously high taxes. Yet whenever i actually need to visit a doctor i always go to a private one.
Nope it is just too expensive and offers too little to justify buying it.
I found glassdoor insanely accurate. It just really reflects the reality most of the time. I observed at least 3 workplaces and it was exactly like the reviews mentioned. Obviously it is harder to know if it applies to the whole company or just your team but if you can do your research it is fairly accurate
You are getting downvoged because op was talking about startups not public sector or corps.
Not even close. It will slowly loose the momentum with .net core and java getting better. As much as i love Go the entire world needs and wants enterprise languages. It wants 1st class support for everything and it wants it now.
Startups will adopt whatever is hyped atm and will rewrite whatever the tech they are building as soon as the next hyped thing gets ready.
I wish i could live in North America. You guys have it so exciting out there ;).
Hopefully it goes to a region that kinda needs it and can grow further.
I know that a lot of sales are coming from China but in Europe if you do not buy "european" the others throw a hissy fit about european solidarity and blah blah...though yeah there are exceptions to this :)
Hard to say. There are entire ghost cities in china because people cannot afford to live there. If an economy crisis hits china it’s possible that the entire world is in trouble (though not all countries). These things are hard to predict but china more or less uses local workers and materials. Only companies and people’s investments tied to those companies would in theory be in trouble.
