Honestly SO helped me a lot in Uni 10 years ago. However I was banned 5+ times for just asking a normal question with attempts at answering. Can’t say I’m surprised. It was not welcoming, massively exclusive and had a rude community. RIP

First pic in article looks like fucking backrooms
My insurance says ambulance rides are covered 100%. Apparently most are out of network though, which the people have no choice of choosing (obviously).
I was sent a post insurance $8000 bill. After months and months of arguing they said it was an error on their side and dropped the charge. Absolutely ridiculous
Idk man the article in the NYT explaining how fucked Seattle is got a Pulitzer Prize
I fainted once and my wife called an ambulance as I was unconcious due to Covid.
I was fully aware when the ambulance arrived and refused. They peer pressured me very hard anyways. It was a 1 mile drive and cost me $14,000
When the “big one” hits Seattle, the PNW is absolutely cooked. Not to fear monger but the fear in my eyes seems somewhat realistic. Anyone care to fact check me here?
Hacked
In London now. So fucking hot. I pay like $4k USD for this flat that is barely even acceptable living accommodation on a cold day.
My kitchen hit 37C. I started to look for a new flat. Nothing with AC, but trying to find something on the ground floor. Unfortunately rent is incredibly expensive here even for an old building that barely has functioning water pressure.
I’m really torn about London right now.
I just got some ear plugs that swimmers wear, quite nice
I live in a big city and notice this a lot as well. I’m starting to reduce my headphone usage. My hearing is getting worse at a young age.
I don’t think the default should be needing to have a soundtrack to your life. I’m a long distance runner and often run 15-20+ miles without music or headphones. It’s nice
Man LITERALLY this morning I was bitching about my Forerunner. I’ve owned almost every model of these things for over 15 years and they’re all pretty bad on the software side. I feel it’s inexcusable for Garmin given they over charge, under deliver and have billions.
First of all, I paid like 500 bucks for this watch. AirPods don’t work with the Spotify app, MTP protocol for music transfer is horrible, etc.
I’m big into running and would highly recommend not buying a Garmin and instead looking at Coros or Suunto
Book store and check reviews or summer reading lists on the times or library.
I have a few of these (including my sisters green ipod mini from childhood). Fun devices that make me nostalgic for the era that got me into programming.
Sadly I stopped using them and gravitated back to the smartphone. Thinking about swapping back to a dumb phone though and perhaps the ipod soon
Is this your reality? I’ve noticed that while the team is way more burned out people are also way less engaged and no longer critically think about edge cases or design reviews, etc anymore.
Well when you say it like that, he’s basically just one of us!
My company is simultaneously doing mass layoffs and mass hiring. Morale is dead in the water
This is a lot of fun! I’ve been wanting to learn how to make pixel games like this myself. Any tips, resources you’d recommend ?
I wonder if anyone that truly does have it has the self reflection or cognisance to admit that they do?
I mean I’ve got guys on my team that actively argue that you can only develop now using AI and no alternative to development without AI is feasible
Reading the rest of this article makes me think Meta is 10x more unhinged than I already thought it was
Improving my focus. Using less AI at work and reading more. Less screen time and more physical things. Spending a lot of time with friends and being outdoors, long distance running and finding more meaning in life
Agreed. Seems like it should be indefinite given they created a multi billion dollar company off the backs of these maintainers dedicating their hard earned timed for free to begin with and then trained models against their code.
IMO this is an insult if anything
Quite fun! And hard
Security by obscurity is not the answer
Why learn math when a calculator can do it? Why read a book if AI can summarise it? Why walk to the store if someone can deliver it?
There is no free lunch. The trade off is you get short term gains and long term cognitive dementia. You become a useless generalist.
Crazy company. Not sure any has existed like it with possibly the exception of early Google
What matters to you deeply beyond survival and family and pets
Thanks. This was a valuable read for me
This response is naive.
London flats are incredibly expensive and given the job market it is making it really hard to justify buying one.
Does anyone in London own their home/flat? I’m not looking to live outside zone 1/2 as I sacrifice why I moved here to begin with. However, these 850k flats that are just basic as hell are extremely overpriced IMO.
Thanks, all things on my list :)
