Especially 2. you're probably more willing to allow OpenAI to bankrupt your morality, than face the facts of the model itself

Overall, Grok models are more factual and less politically influenced than OpenAI ones.

I’m using MacParakeet these days. If your language is supported, definitely give it a try. It’s much faster and lower footprint

Still to this day I don't understand how people manage to do software development on a Windows PC. I started with my first secondhand MacBook which was one before the unibody, and then upgraded to unibody and never have left ever. The only reason I was forced to use Windows was for clients that didn't have support for MacOS or Linux. The only thing I need Windows for is rootkit enabled games... which pains me, otherwise I'd have Linux on my desktop

Don't underestimate the amount of knowledge you don't have to perfect things. I remember building scheduling software in PHP in high school, because I just fixed problem after problem, and I was not limited by any form of knowledge. If I'd have to do it again, I'd be perfecting the architecture, refactoring everything every other week...

Why wouldn't they redistribute to other maintainers of the plugins/clients. They have much more knowlegde of where money is needed or where resources are lacking.

I had on child, a girl, and I though the same way as you. Everything went well and was reasonable. Until my second was born. A boy with a “do-then-maybe-think” character trait. He’s awesome and loving and his emotions are like valleys and mountains. Totally different kid. Radically different way to communicate and raise him.

I’m a heavy user of excalidraw. I wonder if it would be possible to extend something like that to add “flow” design. It could be as simple as defining the dotted arrow as the view direction, ie. when an element is clicked, show this bounding box, where the dotted bounding box is used to zoom to that level.

Interesting perspective. I'd like to use that and say that we should have solar noon in the middle of our "awake" hours instead of in the middle of our work hours. This would benefit even more. We're not in a society where your activities are from dawn to dusk, more so, it's usually from dawn to dusk+evening time.

So, let's take the assumption that the average awake time is 7:00 - 22:00. Gives us 15 hours of awake time.

We (Europe) shouldn't fragment time zones that much. We (NL) should stay on permanent summer time.

Reasons

- criminality is lower when there's longer light

- earlier darkness leads to more accidents. It's better to have longer darkness after the masses are RESTED (in the morning), opposed to when they're TIRED (in the evening)

- longer day-time for office workers, is more productive

- shorter time of year that has long after noon darkness. As humans are using artificial light to stay up longer, it's better to align the time of day with that

One thing I noticed, and where I stopped continuing, is that the jump from Filtering Nested Arrays to Flattening Nested JSON Objects, is WAAAY too big. From a simple filter to triple nested filters with keywords that had no introduction in a simpler example, isn’t working for me

This and a feature to “insert” note lengths instead of “overwriting” them, is imo a fundamental piece of missing feature. I have the same experience with posting a request for help in this direction. They’re very pedantic when it comes to how a person uses the software.

(The use case I need this for us when I want to transcribe music by ear. I first use my MIDI device to type all the notes, and subsequently modify the lengths. Currently I have to cut, modify length, paste, repeat. For every, single, note, rest… Extremely annoying)

If anyone knows software that can help me with this, or another way to transcribe music wrt my use case, let me know!

You should take a look at Colemak. It keeps the zxcv at the same place, particularly for shortcuts.

I’ve switched now 6 years ago. I had a speed of about 80-85 wpm on Qwerty. And now recently I’m on the same speed with Colemak. So that took about 5 years, without deliberate practice. However after 4 months I was already at 57 WPM which is perfectly fine to be productive.

I still type with thumbs on qwerty though. So I haven’t changed my phone to colemak. I must say though that when typing at a colleague's keyboard, I have to type with 4 fingers in order not to confuse the layout. I’m not able to do both as touch typing

Having used FiraCode for a long time, I switched to a very customisable font called Input [1]. I really like the narrowest one for my terminal, as this allows me to fit more on the screen in horizontal direction. I’ve used Ligaturizer [2] to update the font to include ligatures. I believe the ligatures are even taken from FiraCode itself. I wonder how it’s fitting it to the width of a character as it’s much narrower, but still monospaced.

Is it really like that? I expected a docker container having all the deps except for running the project which would be something that’s mounted as a volume. Then each container would spin up its own watcher to build/test/serve the project. And have a bash open to run additional commands.

Maybe my assumptions are wrong though…?

With this in mind there’s still a viable business for third party apps; build an app so good for mods that they want to pay for it to cover the API costs. I know, it’s the undesired solution for regular users, but the goal of Reddit is to move everyone who doesn’t pay to the main channels.

I still agree Reddit is making a deck move by doing this. I’m still using Alien Blue and even though there’s been no updates it still works, and will probably break when the new API structure lands, of which I’m really sad. I will probably not be using Reddit at all anymore as this is the only entry I’ve had for the past decade.

I’m still sad about the spaces grid that’s been removed in recent versions from macOS. Som 15 years ago when I started using a MacBook unibody 13” there were grid like spaces. I usually had a 3-by-3 grid. IDE in the center, left a browser window for docs, right a browser window for preview of what I was building, bottom terminal, bottom right spotify, top right socials, and some leftovers on top and bottom left. Every app had it’s own designated space.

Now, I’m using 9 spaces, lineair unfortunately. But I’m using yabai with shkd as window manager and Alt-tab to switch between recent windows (as that’s apparently broken by design in macOS).

I’ve configured so called “modes” for create a vim-command-like way of commanding windows and focus around. Eg hyper+m goes into _m_ove mode, from there I can press 1-9 to move a window to a specific space, or shift+1-9 to move and follow, or (shift+)q to move (and follow) a window to the latest focused space. (Hyper+q in “normal” mode moves me back and forth between recent spaces.) I’ve got jump mode to go to an application by shortcut, and some app specific modes to bind key successions to shortcuts.

Oh, not trivial, hyper+enter gives me iTerm at any space

The nice thing about yabai with SIP disabled is that it’s snapping without _any_ delay, which is great when working with many windows.

Honestly, “easy” is relative. Understanding software engineering is a study of 4 years, so having someone take a course on fit for 20-40 hours is literally half a week of proper studying and you’d know git. I don’t get why there are bootcamps for _only_ JavaScript CSS that take at least 8 weeks of hard work and then half of those to learn git and call it “not easy”. It’s the depth that we want to commit to understanding something that leads to people saying it’s not easy. Invest proper time into it and everyone (in sw eng) can learn git
