In Korea, they sell complete systems that do this. Basically sensor and HVAC and/or kitchen stove fan. These systems are built in high-end new apartments.

Namecheap is horrible regarding legal threats and how they manage them. In my experience, they threaten to shutdown domains with 24 hours notice if you do not respond to legal threats. Although I avoided being shutdown, I almost didn't respond to such an email thinking the email from Namcecheap was spam. I highly recommend avoiding Namecheap for business.

If you search on hacker news there are some people including me who have bad experiences with namecheap, as they threaten to cut off domain itself easily when they get complaints. I am not talking about hosting, but the domain itself. For any large enterprise client, I recommend against using them. Right now, I am on Gandi and only use them for domain, even reading this I'd still pick them over namecheap.

Colonoscopy(can detect polyps BEFORE they become cancer, but more costly and hard for patient) is the gold standard for detecting colon cancer, along with fecal occult blood which is cheap and easier to do but will detect only more advanced cancers. For prostate, the early detection and screening is usually using done using a PSA blood test.

Same experience. It is nearly unresponsive on high core count servers like high end epyc cpus.

During that time I have had no "abnormal" problems with paid production account.

However, it is well known that Oracle accidentally nuked free/trial accounts early on, and again recently accidental nuked free/trial accounts reserved public IPs. However, I know of no such events for paid accounts, and paid accounts on OCI should be production ready quality in my experience.

On the other hand support really is somewhat bad, but support is free and the cloud costs are much less than AWS, while having better products than similar priced cloud products such as Lnode, Vultr, Digital ocean.

In the end I checked what 4chan used. In the past they used Gandi. Currently they use Cloudflare.

I went with Gandi as I suspect their support is more geared toward domain specialization. I don't like companies with no margins, and as Cloudflare domain sales officialy have no margin so they are definitely cheap in price, I find their non-paid non-enterprise support bad in quality. Gandi seems ok support and policy wise. Gandi also has paid telephone support if needed in emergency which is fine with me.

If I missed the warning email or checked my email after 24 hours they would have completely suspended my domain. I'm talking about a site with MILLIONS of visitors per month and ten thousands of posts per day, not some small blog. I thought the warning was SPAM then looked at the headers and then found it was really namecheap.

Seems whois lookup shows godaddy as their registrar. This would make me avoid them as a registrar.

Namecheap in our experience also has a similar policy and simply sends an email and threatens to suspend domain in 24 hours if they have a significant abuse report. Abuse reports can of course happen and are needed, but sending a single email and then suspending domains is utterly a horrible practice since many domains will have significant user uploaded content.

On the other hand my experience with Amazon abuse team has been positive. They send an email and follow up, without something as ridiculous as suspending domain automatically.

I would avoid Godaddy and Namecheap for domain usage in any significant business.

Another aspect is they are actually using bandwidth to max and have a cap on usage spending. No CDN I know of allows capping bandwidth usage.

The way they use bandwidth means the most efficent GB/dollar cost although at the cost of poor performance.

At the bandwidth levels they are using they would need to use Cloudflare Enterprise, and in my experience that is way more expensive than other CDN providers.

Also, since archive.org has so much content, the caching ratio is going to be very bad and kill CDN efficiency while still requiring lots of direct bandwidth. Cheap direct bandwidth in their case looks best(which is what they seem to be doing).

Have you personally tried other methods when having an overload of server traffic? Do you have a link showing a real setup of a better method?

Of note, the module is a port from the nginx tuned by alibaba which is quite a credible source.

I have served over a billion pageviews/month, and cutting off requests at a certain load threshold with a custom error page to users is a good idea. Otherwise the users will just get a huge slowdown or a backlog of requests which will cause a prolonged server recovery.

Also as the author vozlt mentioned, you can use "average of request processing times" and custom http errors. Also, it is much easier to use than the methods you suggest.
