I guess you'd have to dig quite a deep trench for modern tanks.

They should just ban all interesting content already so creators finally move to better platforms some of which are probably yet to be created. Watching YouTube these days without adblocker is just painful, not to mention the broken copyright claim system which has to be the way it is partly because YouTube is just too big.

I wonder if maybe future space dwelling people will look at living on planets like we do at living in caves.

What I feel would be missing for me is the scale and freedom of living on an earth like planet. It might be different if one is born and raised on a space station.

I much prefer the new chassis simply because it's noticeably less of a pain to carry around while retaining the same performance.

I do hope the next chassis will fix the keyboard and maybe even add back the sd-card reader, not to mention introduce top spec non-touchbar models.

I'm in luck then since I'm probably targeting a narrow niche here :)

A slice of me in tech: I strive for simple over sophisticated especially when just starting out, I take system and data/db architecture serious bc I believe a solid foundation is a must for building a good system, I like using work queues for better robustness and decoupling, when it comes to scaling parts of a system I'll take serverless over a microservice any day if the tasks is suited for serverless.

Most recently I spent ~2 years as tech lead on a SaaS product with Elixir/NodeJS codebase which we took from zero through YCS17 to production. I hope to put some of that experience to good use by helping others do the same.

The actual keyboard language is irrelevant since the layout is defined in software. You can just change the layout to US or UK and learn to touch type it. The US layout is lot nicer if you write a lot of code in my opinion.

You can also set up multiple layouts and switch via OS shortcut when needed.

Realizing you don't need an excuse to do what you like doing.

Taking a moment to relax and gaze at the stars or enjoy a coffee on your own just sitting there lost in thought is as good an activity as having a smoke. I really don't see people judging other people for it.

Or if you're actually looking for an activity not an excuse, just thinking about a interesting topic/problem and writing down the thoughts going through your head on your phone (or even better onto a piece of paper/notepad, no interruptions) can be an very satisfying activity I found out.

Really helps me to focus on whatever I'm thinking about too.

Yes, I had my location set all this time but now that you asked I took a second look and realised that is not enough.

While my countries flag was displayed next to the search bar it was set to "All results" in the menu, so I have to explicitly enable the region filter by flipping the switch next to it.

This, searching tech related topics, world news etc. works well enough but when I try to search for (not english) local content the top 10 results often aren't even specific to my country.

It seems to be just lumping results together by language without putting enough weight on location.

Funny thing is, I have just the opposite issue with google. While traveling, it constantly tries to force me to use the local version even if I don't want to (redirecting from google.com etc.) which puts more weight on local results.

I would expect the complete opposite if we really want to colonize the solar system at some point. It seems far easier to modify/replace the human body than to try to suit all it's biological needs.

There are Thunderbolt (2) hubs that allow you to do just that even now, bit pricey though.

Also I don't think USB-C is the deciding factor here, it'll still have to use Tunderbolt to provide the hub functionality.

It doesn't make any sense to me tbh, why doesn't it have more than 4 ports in general, from the outside it doesn't look like there is no room for them, the USB-C ports are even smaller than all the ports that were there before.

Also 2 not 4 USB-C ports and a Headphone Jack ports on the lower end model (still $1500), are you freaking kidding me?

The 2015 MBP has: 1x MagSafe, 2x USB3, 2x Thunderbolt/DisplayPort, 1x HDMI, SD Card Reader, Headphone Jack.

The USB-C charging option is fine, but why not also include MagSafe? I tripped over the charger cable plenty of times, it just unplugs, now that's actually a great feature.

I have a camera and plenty of SD cards so I use the SD card reader all the time, I actually think I wouldn't want a laptop without it anymore.

My Monitor supports DP, HDMI and DVI, I can pretty much plug it straight into any current laptop on this planet except for the MBP 2016 and MacBook 12".

This is a bit underwhelming.

Also judging by se size difference of the ports, USB-A to C adapters are going to be pretty clunky.

If you use something to earn money price doesn't really matter that much imo, especially if you earn multiples of the price per month. I wouldn't really recommend spending MBpro money for just casual usage.

When I bought mine after some consideration last year it was the only laptop with a 16:10 screen, IPS panel, better than 1080p resolution, 16GB of ram, faster than SATA SSD, good battery life, light, decent keyboard, just all around a great device, the only missing option I would have liked hardware wise is a matte panel instead of glossy.

Alternatives I considered at the time were the Dell XPS 13 Dev and Lenovo 450s/440s which both were 16:9 and with less than 16GB of ram. I think there are still no other comparable options that come with a 16:10 screen out there even today.

OSX is not my OS of choice (it's still a lot better than having to run Windows) but battery life and scaling is worse on Linux, also if you do your development using Vagrant and Docker the OS is not much of an issue.

I think it's just a matter of time for that trend of exclusively mobile/dumb devices to start reversing especially as phones/tablets increase in processing power. Canonical already showed us it is possible to run both Android and a full desktop OS on the Android kernel years ago[1], MS Surface tablets are basically laptops without a fixed hinge between the keyboard and screen.

I see at least one clear profit motive for the industry here, let's say you have a "Desktop enabled, smart" smartphone, you'll probably want to buy a dock, screen, keyboard, mouse, productivity software, etc.
