I'm the main developer behind this app. I built this app primarily because of my needs (it sits right in my existing daily workflow), but I've been thinking if this app might be useful for others as well. A lot of this was inspired by my own problems and then a discussion about "Rabbit hole" syndrome in this thread - http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=5197155

It would be really nice to know the viewpoint of fellow HNers about their existing todo apps and point of views on what would be their perfect todo app.

At 14, I was busy playing soccer. I didn't get to computers and coding till I was 17-18, when my brother bought a PC. So jealous of you guys who build such awesome stuff at this age ! Way to go..!

A radical change is not gonna happen with any fire or so that you mention. The path to achieve it is what Mr. Kejriwal is doing right now, and the time to get there will be the next decade or so. You think a street revolution is gonna help India right now, or a structured approach with a long-term vision..

The problem is that out of the 3 main bodies in any country - politicians, bureaucrats, and the armed forces - India has always had a nexus amongst the first two. Although this is much better than politicians+armed forces, it still is a problem. I won't go so far to say that we are descending into a Banana republic as yet; but if the alarming rate at which income inequality is growing right now is not checked, then yes that day wont be far.

duiker101 yes..that's the general idea. But the mobile app world is so chaotic these days, that it takes a long time to be found. WOM is a good strategy, but focussing on finding the competitors weakness might take away your focus away from the product itself ??

Why would you say that ? Just want to understand.

The idea is to build a very selective "Dos & Donts" around a place / activity - this is not a recommendation for place (125 restaurants) but more like "what's good to eat here" or 'the chef's speciality is this' and other low-level details.

In any case this is just a weekend thing, but I would love to understand what would you have in a travel app that would give you more value than tripadvisor (lets say).

I actually don't know what Hoppr is..I guess nobody does until they launch ! As far as I know they are converting big travel data into relevant data, and so are we planning to..though our approach is different (as far as I know)..

Yeah the heading might have been a bit sensationalist, but underneath everybody was logical & made sense. His main idea that hardware-only businesses are dead is right to the point (and so are you in saying that software alone is dead). Its all about integrating everything/anything for that perfect product.

From the VB article - "The truth is that if your company sells hardware today, your business model is essentially over". And you are comparing a complete product with only hardware / software.

I agree with you when you say "Its all about the product", and even the VB author does ("No one can make money selling hardware anymore. The only way to make money with hardware is to sell something else and get consumers to pay for the whole device and experience"). That term "experience" encapsulates a lot of what you talk about in your article.

It's strange that you refused a scholarship - who knows where that money went (another needy student or another scam). Plus, turning down a reservation only means that you made sure that someone less deserving (via reservation) got an engineering seat over a more deserving one (a general student who otherwise would have ranked just enough to get admitted).

While your intent is good, I think you are letting your ego do the talking - dishing out theories over practicals. Practicality beats the st out of theory any given day. Try telling the farmer who hasn't eaten for a week to stand up and be strong - I bet he can't stand (quite literally).

Hi all, my current technology stack consists of thin / nginx / redis / sinatra, and since I'm trying to build a real-time betting engine, I need to figure out a way to have Comet and pub/sub implemented using this technology stack. My friends have recommended me to use Erlang or nods.js, but because of the learning curve, I would like to go ahead with the implementation using this current technology stack.

Any pointers in this direction would be highly appreciated..
