nice! it would be really cool if I could not only save the url, but the content of the page as well. I say that because I've saved many sites to disk because links break and mirroring those between machines is annoying.
yeah I totally didn't notice. I'm gonna just order the dot labels and put stickers on top. that's really cool the keys are custom like that.
no biggie, I'll just ask for the dot labels. thanks!
I use the workman layout, so I'll obviously want to move the keys around to match the layout. some keyboards keys break when trying to shuffle them around. does anyone know if it's easy to move the keys around?
still gonna buy one anyway, and if I can't I'll just put stickers on top like my mpb :)
according to bitcoin's github repo, the epic fail has had a pull request since april now. https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/4011
it appears that bitcoin devs are dragging their feet here. to quote gmaxwell (the author of the PR),
it would catch any case where the public keys and the secret keys in the wallet didn't agree with each other, either due to corruption or due to malicious modification (e.g. so that newly issued keys were really someone elses private keys). How much thats worth I dunno.
and for completeness: the relevant issue posted by the OP: https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/issues/4601

most video advertisements start out with the volume muted, then you opt-in to hear the sound. that'd be my suggestion, at least
yeah, brings back those myspace memories for me. the browser even became unusable as well - just like it used to, with those decked out myspace themes. (actually, it's amazing to think that IE survived some of those profiles.)
she certainly is a lot more exuberant in her points than me, however as someone who has "lived abroad" for more than 8 years now, I don't consider it "living abroad" at all - yet I agree with her conjecture... I believe that "living abroad" should be something that intelligent countries require their citizens to do (instead of something idiotic like required military service).
things I find most notably true in her article are the following:
1. I find myself much more patient
2. I find it difficult to express myself in "only" english anymore
3. living out of a suitcase is possibly one of the most liberating experiences ever.
4. the learned concept that all over this planet there are so many individual experiences happening at the same time, and many of which I could never even understand because I don't know the culture, or am not aware that this is even a possibility of existence. amazing.
the hypocrisy in his statement is mind blowing.
call me out if I'm wrong here, but he just had a bazillion news stories saying he was going to do philanthropy. how is that not back patting? finally, he concludes that we will have a perpetual poverty machine by people patting themselves on the back with charitable acts, so his solution is to try and get all 13 year old girls to no longer be sold for sex.
that makes zero sense! I'm gonna try and follow his logic here: he says the market is too vast. ok. we should shatter those structures and vast markets. ok. we gatta be absolutely sure that 13 year-old girls are no longer sold for sex any more.
so, could he be implying that he really wants to return to traditional markets without wifi on every street corner and just the regular old 18+ year-olds sold for sex?
(sorry for the crude comment. it is not meant in harm. after thinking about it more than 10 seconds, I have no idea what kind of world he wants to create!!)
EDIT: I would imagine that what he really want's to do, is invest all that cash into google, install wifi on their street corners along with a chromebook so they can get them some form of education, and then track all their communications, to be 100% sure that they're not being sold for sex.
the first thing I thought about is paying my taxes in the US:
most of my money will end up in military programs [0], but I do have the option to opt a percentage of my money out of those military programs by donating to charity -- a tax break.
I agree, clean water should be a top priority, whether it's cleaning oil spills, rain water, pollution, or drinking water, whatever...
another controversial point of philanthropy: is it better to fund a program to solve an existing problem using money, or to instead invest that money instead into education? I just don't know...
[0] looking up military spending, I found multiple results. some sites claiming as low as 19% of income tax goes to military spending, and others claiming much higher numbers.. ~45% (https://www.warresisters.org/content/how-pie-chart-figures-w...) -- without a doubt though, and according to wikipedia, the USA definitely tops the charts by a long shot. it also appears (acc to wikipedia) that south korea spends more than it's northern counterpart (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_military_e...) on military programs
I would never mention that awful film. I only mentioned mcdonalds, because I grew up on "fast-food" and not healthy balanced diet food... actually I didn't know anything about nutrition until the soylent thing came out, and I decided I wanted to make my own version, so I started researching.
I have my own criticisms of soylent but that's not my point. (I don't think soy to be the best form of protein. I'm experimenting with a combination of almonds and chicken breast right now) so if, and when I become as well knowledgeable as that guy, and perfect my recipe I may post it for others to see -- but I don't know enough yet. I think he could have been more constructive though. I think maybe that actually soylent (or any other one-size-fits-all solution) is not universally good for everyone. maybe we should all be experimenting and trying to create a variety of different recipes.
well, I didn't mean it like that.
IMO, the author of the article went way out of his way to try and prove soylent to be something... I'm not sure what he was trying to prove actually -- it seemed like he was generally kinda being negative. what bothered me is that he's spending so much energy to try and belittle something which is cheaper and probably healthier to eat than most fast food.
why didn't he just give constructive criticism?
EDIT: what I would like to see is some sort of concerted effort to try and make a cheap, inexpensive food, which isn't perishable. that's all. I'm sorry for being negative myself. I think such a product could go a long way for improvement of all humanity
everyone's body is different. there was an article earlier today about losing weight with the same premise.
soylent should be sorta like those the soda machines at the fast food places, cept instead of mixing dr pepper and coke, you could get an extra dose of chicken squirt instead of soy squeeze
when I was younger and lived in the USA, I had a diet of virtually only mcdonalds (and burritos). I survived.
this has got to be, at least slightly more nutritious. LOL, what's the big deal? I'm also like 100% sure this is better than what the starving africans are eating.
why doesn't he just provide some constructive improvements instead of a graphically enhanced rant, with the assumption that the entire world eats a balanced nutritional diet?
oh yea, the various arguments against the man (and other fallacies), are nice touches too... seriously, who cares dude? if he's such a super experienced nutritionist, why doesn't he make his own soylent v2.0?
disclaimer: never tried soylent, nor care to try it, but soylent did inspire me to make my own version of easily reproduced "food". it's still in experimentation, but ironically this article was informative. it's given me a few new ideas to improve my own blend (which uses almond butter instead of soy as a base). thanks!
snowden is not the story. it has remained obvious to me that the NSA or whatever organization (rusian, chinese, or whatever) does not need some sort of dinosaur spygame facility to access this data.
all they need is just one underpaid programmer without a soul working at facebook to compromise the whole database.
wouldn't it be much easier in a case such as this one, for verizon to just have some retard patsy create that backdoor? I would imagine this to be a get out of jail free card for those guys really pulling the strings. all you gatta do is drop all the blame on some naive techie and let him go down in flames.
IMO, the next up in this chess game, is a traitor techie willing to compromise a whole nation to pay his bills.
I do not consider mushrooms to be a party drug. neither do I consider weed to be a party drug, but that's just me. historically, I have been addicted to smoking for quite some time... but, you know, there's an interesting thing that happened after I started to take mushrooms.
in comparison to smoking a joint, I would previously smoke before programming, and what would sometimes happen is I would end up smoking another, and another, and another; chasing that dragon until I felt inspired. however, if you were to do a few g's of shrooms instead, the last thing you're gonna be thinking is, "wow I'm gonna drop another few g's" like you'd be thinking after smoking a joint ... I'm usually so overloaded by the mind expanding experience I just had, that's the last thing I wanna do. I won't do them more often that once a week, and I'm a highly addictive personality. actually, I've noticed that I tend to not want to drink alcohol, or ... well really anything addicting, and watched all addictive behavior reduce every time. I just want to create. I now neither need mushrooms anymore. the changes seem to be permanently enlightening.
I've not tried LSD (cause I can't get it here), but I know that Jobs was a huge proponent of it. from what I can gather, the concept is similar.
I think, if you are somewhat grounded individual, I believe your experience will be something of exaggerated connection with nature, other humans, and your own creative ideas. perhaps it's a bit illusory, but I have never seen a detrimental side-effect to redefining your connection with your immediate world with that sort of illusory connection.
you cannot overdose on mushrooms. I also found I am less inclined to simplistic forms of thoughtless hedonism, focusing a bit more on the bigger picture. I find that creativity and novelty are forefront in my mind for at least a few days afterwards, if not permanently.
compare that with alcohol, and I think you may rethink your next few mindless sloshers.
@neilk, I believe that the negative-positive experiences are actually the best. IMO, it's just soo easy to smoke a doobie or go get smashed -- yet reality tends to come back with a vengeance afterward. however, if you're forced to look at something like that, and you can get past it, my best experiences have usually come about with that feeling of freedom after leaving behind a retarded mindset.
if you have done mushrooms (or are considering it), and are a programmer, I really highly recommend this video by terence mckenna. it's called "Shamans among the machines." :D
he explores the next big step of evolution for humanity will probably be coming from, "programmers on shrooms" :D
me too. I've never actually taken shrooms with other people (yet). only by myself. I've done them multiple times, but the last time, I didn't measure the dose, and I took, easily what would be a VERY intense trip for someone (maybe 5g) and I was highly agitated and couldn't continue my meditation. I had to move around get into nature, etc. but then I had this great idea to go look in a mirror. when I looked into the mirror, I totally fell in love with myself, and felt so much calmness and security, I literally must have been there like a half hour.
I just kept staring at my eyes. they kept getting more and more blue, and more and more deep, and some sort of strange peace came about me and my body all over. I knew myself. from that experience on, my whole way of thinking changed and I decided to stop doing stupid shit. since then (been a few months now), I've only been able to focus on getting what I wanted out of life -- for myself and everyone around me too (no matter how awful they might be). I like to say encouraging and uplifting things, only rarely do I see the world in sadness. I can quickly get out of sadness now too. it's all perspective after you've seen without filters
I highly recommend shrooms. prepare though. be mentally ready for a mind expanding experience. if you do meditation, do it in a dark room, and try to get as deep as possible before the effects kick in. and then later come out if you want, but always remember you're still you, just you without a lot of those extra filters (that you yourself have constructed!).
