His "Unmournable Bodies" essay in New Yorker shook me to my core.

This has to be good news for Twitter.

Twitter suffered enormously under his leadership. It lost users, potential revenue, potential profits, and people.

He seemed to not care about all the trolling and abuse problems.

This is good news.

And I spotted the fire retardant.

A 300 point drop in the Dow is an "almost normal" day.

700 point is nothing to worry about.

Via Twitter I have asked clarificatory questions to some of the top authors (Taleb was one), journalists and programmers in the world.

Most of them responded.

When I was unhappy I was always unhappy (eventually). Whether it was by myself or with other people. Smallco or Bigco.

IMHO, 5 things are essential. Everything else is secondary:

- Sleep / resting the body-mind

- Exercise / moving the body

- Meditation / moving the mind

- Nutrition / feeding the body-mind

- Access to high quality internet on a high quality computer with a good electricity network

Exactly this. People are trying to sway the discussion with "single mother" and "mexican" implying that "people of color who make unfortunate choices" should somehow be exempt from the uniform and fair application of laws.

Back a couple of decades ago in India. I was working for an American telecoms co. I grew pally with an HR manager. He showed me the background on a new hire. The new hire was the son of a mid-level government official cum career civil servant in a dept that oversaw the telecoms industry.

I saw the letter Daddy wrote ON HIS OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT LETTERHEAD... addressed to the head of the Indian division of the telcoms co... recommending his own son for a job.

My point? It's not just rich kids. It's also well connected kids. In high-regulation environments, government officials, although they may not be rich, have the highest access.

I think it used to be impressive when they created Bootstrap.

Twitter's website currently is not Responsive. The web interface looks different on every platform (mobile, tablet, desktop). And on mobile, the website is terribly slow.

They said Google won't make a bid. But Alphabet ($GOOG) can absolutely make a bid.

Is this potentially an open-source self-hosted alternative to Twilio?

So I've been feverishly researching both topics, and how to learn them. I've decided to take these 2 courses from Coursera (starting soon, in Oct 2016). Both are free, and for the ML course, one can pay after completing it and get a certificate (there's no certificate for the Bitcoin course).

Makes sense. An advantage with us Old Geeks is we don't like to re-invent the wheel ;-)

I initially thought it was an egg being broken because of the reference to "egghead.io".

It lacks integration with SMS though.

GText will integrate SMS and all in-house Google instant-messaging/texting modalities.

For starters, iCloud has a 5GB limit (free tier). And that limit has been used up by lots of other things in addition to iMessages.

iCloud backups are also known to fail. Someone I know just can't get the backup to work on their iPhone.

This could be a legitimate concern of his. But I would guess that even if he were to delete everything, Twitter would still have permanently archived undeleted copies (Facebook does that apparently).

At this stage, I've given up caring about my privacy :-)

Which is why I wrote "idiot-proof". Things such as "encrypted backup" and "server side" are difficult to parse when I'm under the pressure of changing a phone. Plus, Apple has a bad enough reputation as it is (with cloud / syncing). I want my old texts to reappear magically without having to know these complicated sounding concepts. GMail does that. GText would if Google created it along similar lines.
