This narrative implies we lack free will and is really insulting to people. They’re using fear to position the reader as a potential victim who should continue reading their articles to avoid a similar fate.

Sure, there are superficial interactions with strangers in dense, global communities. There’s also an increased likelihood of meeting someone who may significantly expand your network and change your life at any moment.

Humility is an aspect that’s often missing from these urban vs. suburban/rural discussions. Living in an suburban community and working in tech, it’s very easy to have a high opinion of yourself. Moving to SF quickly humbles you as you are suddenly surrounded by people much smarter than yourself. You feel a need to focus on what you’re uniquely good at and work on continuing to improve your skills in that niche. That was my experience anyway.

I recently realized I have insecure attachment and have been working on overcoming it. The process I use is somewhat similar:

1. Recognize when you feel anxious or insecure.

2. Ask yourself what is causing it.

3. Either fix it or accept it.

It'd be nice if queries starting with "go to..." would automatically go to the first result, ala I'm Feeling Lucky.

American laws discouraging hacking will only leave more vulnerabilities open on American networks for foreign hackers to exploit. With one less exploit now open, we're lucky Anonymous hacked the Fed. How long had it been open? How many other entities may have hacked in and not published what they found?

We used a device called an "iclicker" at my school that could do all of this, though it was pretty much only used for paperless pop quizzes.

One benefit was immediately after, the teacher could display a bar chart showing the correct multiple choice answer and how many students voted for each of A,B,C,D thereby giving students and idea of where they ranked in the class.
