You have a good point here, but I consider this perpetual struggle a matter of liberty vs. power, rather than security. True security actually encourages personal freedoms to an extent.

Right, you can never be 100% certain it's the same code. But it's a valuable "good faith" step that sets a level of trust between the users and developers.

You can't have a reasonable assurance of privacy unless your software is open source.

I strongly believe the modern American prison system is something our descendants will look back upon with disgust, much like how we perceive slavery.
