Same with my college networking class. The professor talked a lot but we didn't do much besides look at HTTP requests in Wireshark.

The most practical thing I had to do with networking cane up in a job interview where I paired with someone to work on some low later stuff.

They do ish. There's Medicare which is state sponsored health insurance, Social Security which provides a stipend every month in retirement and a bunch of NGOs they fund to provide meals and other stuff.

What about shifting to a more stable form of retirement instead of the DIY solutions (401ks, IRAs, etc.) pushed since the 80s? As great as they are, there's a lot of BS marketing around 401ks (unless you self manage) and while the market has consistent returns over time, the premise "past returns do not indicate future performance" still applies.

Before then there were pensions which seemed more stable. Only thing I wonder about them is what would happen to the pension if the company went out of business.

Expensive glasses are expensive. There are online retailers where you can get glasses for $20 (not sure about more complicated prescriptions).

I go to this place where I can get a $50 eye test before buying them online. Only issue is that the people who do the eye tests leave out the PD number which is kinda important. If you ask them for it, they'll tell you to do it yourself or buy glasses from them. You can measure it yourself instead.

B&H have started collecting sales tax [0] on lots of states after the Supreme Court ruling. States are going hard on collecting sales tax. Connecticut is even asking for online retailers to give them DBs on customer transactions[1]. B&H refused to do that while Newegg obliged[2].

I don't see your source alluding too this "view of masculinity as toxic". The reasons in the article are that they couldn't be bothered, not a toxic view of masculinity.

I have heard about this in regards to Asian cultures[0] but I've wanted to read more into why that is.

At the time I got it, I wanted to move to iOS. I couldn't afford the flagship 6S (even with monthly payments) and I heard rumors that they were going to make a 5s with 6S internals. It was still expensive to me at the time (at $500 for 64GB) and I was pissed when a 128GB model came for $400, but I'm very happy with it.

Having used it now for 3 years, I've really enjoyed it. It's small, sure, but it works so well in one hand. It's also incredibly powerful. It's amazing just how many high end apps you can run without issue.

Right now, I'm not sure what I'll do next. I got annoyed with the iPhone X's direction and anticipated that I'd keep it until the battery dies at which point I'd replace battery and keep it until either the updates stop or the atoms give up. Now, I'm not sure. It's starting to show its age (slightly) even with the new battery. As much as I enjoy the form factor, I wanna look into the future. It would be great if they shoved XS specs (including cameras, OLED and 3D touch) into an SE-like body, but that isn't gonna happen.

It is to be scrutinised for the right kind of African representation. You are required to perform the rituals. You are required to bow to the expectations of citizenship.

I totally get this. I wanted to write a book which centered around my life in high school. One thing that worries me is that even though Africa is a diverse place, there's an expectation that "African literature" should be written in a particular way on particular subjects and experiences. I doubt coming from an upper class family attending a fancy private school counts as such.

Extra means over the top, excessive or dramatic. Generally, People on Twitter trend to be rather dramatic.

I'm not sure how to feel about this. From social media I've been able to connect with old friends, enjoy good memes and keep up with current affairs.

It's also been useful at times where I've found people willing to put in a good word for a job, mentor me and there are a few people who are really good at providing a fruitful environment for discussion (even controversial topics) that makes me sad to leave.

Unfortunately, it just got too extra for me. I mean, there is a lot of bullshit in the world, but at times it looks like people just want to get mad for the sake of it. While I'm not a big proponent of don't feed the trolls, I doubt quote tweeting some asshole to score a satisfying dunk does any favors. It just seems to import garbage into other people's timelines.

Also, they'll be done people going about their day, or writing something intended for their like-minded friends and it catches wind far beyond where it was supposed to go, setting you up for an unwanted roast.

Even though I deleted my social media, I'm hoping that it becomes less extra because there can be a lot of value in it.

Sadly, it's hard to see that happening, especially with how social media is becoming the whole internet and IRL for many people in the world. The Telecom operators in my home country insist on selling unlimited social media packages rather than just giving us cheaper internet even though they can somehow provide 2GB of data for $5 that has to be used in 24 hours.

I needed them for my senior project[0] in college where I tried to make a lab assistant with the Google Home that would answer questions about the cafeteria menu and course information.

I learned a lot about webscraping which I had to do since I had no API to work with. I really wish I was more diligent in finishing it since prior really liked my demo.

Yes because I found it absolutely useless since I didn't interact with people much besides a friend who I forgot to tell I was leaving Facebook. Thankfully she emailed me so we could stay in touch.

I wasn't using FB a whole lot since it made me feel bad but what pushed me to the edge was their utter contempt for their users.

I doubt it means much given how big of an influence it has in the world however. And I'm not sure I'll get all those productivity benefits since I'll waste time on something else.

Mine sometimes struggle in the winter though, especially with my phone in my pocket.
