I had he exact opposite reaction: expecting it to be US-exclusive and got to the last paragraph where it said they don't support any US banks. Big ole' :-( face.
These two sentences were not parseable: "What if we head to Rockville and buy Daniel a beer or 2. May you fetch me a bottle of water?"
Same, although excusable since they are new.
Don't forget:
sites.google.com wiki.google.com apps.google.com
This probably scanned Google's old Sites product; the equivalent of Geocities for the early '00's.
From the authors philosophical standpoint, I think this is indeed very interesting. I hate having to open up multiple instances of the dev tools since they are tied to the tab instance.
This seems to be over 10 years old...
Completely agree. You can argue that sharing is uploading to another person. Obviously not downloading it.
This really isn't about sharing, its about sending the content outwards. The subsequent action will dictate whether its to share or pass to another program or even copying for a later paste.
Its sending the "thing" outwards...away from yourself. To something else.
But you also don't want to focus just on sales.
In the end, every business model will have a more optimal and less optimal emphasis on sales, marketing, user feedback, etc...
Most B2B and B2C startups may in fact need more focus on sales...but a B2B2C company may find it misleading. If your customer is not your end user, focusing on sales and not marketing can actually be quite dangerous.
You guys are missing us, HelloWallet http://www.hellowallet.com
Been in DC for over 4 years. Have hosted many meetups and we are growing...very very fast. We are based in the West End, off of 22nd and M st NW.
We LOVE the DC startup scene. We want to build it out and make it the "Silicon Capital". :-)
We're also hiring... http://www.hellowallet.com/about-us/careers/
You are right. That there isn't much out there for the "power" users.
We (HelloWallet) are much more focused on holistic financial wellness. But we are working on some very exciting investment-oriented products as we speak.
It still would be interesting to get your perspective if you want to create an account:

GWT is not Java on both sides. Its Java on the server, Javascript on the client. The Java client side code compiles to Javascript...the abstraction is way greater than what OP is presenting. (JS & JS)
GWT is/was a terrible amount of overhead baggage, but had some brilliant event systems and DOM tricks for its day.
For modern development of what?
Then don't use Javascript.
I'm not sure I can really appreciate another rant about how one language, framework, pre–compiler, VM, etc is terrible and everyone should stop using it.
Javascript's popularity has emerged organically. Its not because it has the best design. Its because it can get the job done and is browser based–and now server-side too. The browser is the next OS, the ultimate VM, if you will.
If you just stop picking at it and appreciate it for what it is...it is f'ing awesome.
very cool.
(I studied this kind of philosophy in college, mostly determinism, epistemology and the computational representational model of the mind)
Agreed.
What do you mean when you say "I".
Sure you can point the the brain. But when we look at the brain, we see the following "physical" attributes:
1. Atoms and their more complex configurations (molecules) 2. Electricity 3. Chemicals 4. Causal connections between the above 3.
So I ask again, where exactly is "I"? The easy answer is to say "I" is the conjunction of this system.
So that would mean that if we can take that system, and recreate it somewhere else, then that system would represent "I" as well.
This is problematic. Take the above as true and then think what it would mean to not CUT and paste, but just COPY and paste.
There are now two "I"'s walking around. Would you, looking at the copy and paste version of yourself then say that you are still "I"? Or are both of you "I"? Well, you are certainly not the "I" that your other self is saying is "I". Because you are looking at it. It can't be "I". So what the f#$k is powering that thing?
By that logic, what you are is more than just the physical. There are things like Qualia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qualia), meaning, memories and the associations between completely unrelated things that, as far as I am aware, we cannot map to the physical manifestation of the brain.
None of this is to say that brain uploading is impossible, because we just simply don't have enough information to refute or defend its possibility.
But I believe that the brain is more complex then the pure physical.
this.

GSAP is more robust than these. With reverse playing and yo-yo'ing....so surprised it isn't mentioned more on here.
I would add a #3.
3. Counteracting the negative effects of other chemicals that are used that day.
Any stimulant, whether its caffeine, amphetamines or pure adrenaline causes anxiety. That anxiety increases with the dosage of the aforementioned substances; leading to an increased desire of ending said anxiety (b/c you know...no one likes anxiety).
I can confirm. I have iOS7 running on my iPhone 5 at the moment.
Its actually clearer now since there is no "on" or "off" label. Its just off and white or on and green.
Yeap, no dice. Still offline 7/24 7:23AM EST
its back for me
[edit] nvm, that was the marketing developer site.
It only feels wrong.
You don't have to use the GUI I'd imagine.
Good article...your service?
You make me sit there and wait for the results of a scan of a website and then don't show me it? You then ask me to create an account to view my 2 "borderline-unsecure" vulnerabilities? Ok, account created with dummy email. Oh whats this? I still can't view the results? I have to upload shit to my production site in order to just view the results? Did you even actually find anything wrong?
I understand the security implications of having someone verify they do indeed own the site scanned...but this bait and switch crap is infuriating. If you are going to go down that route, at least message it somewhere...clearly.
PG is being a little disingenuous to philosophy as a discipline.
I hold a degree in Philosophy, but play an engineer in real life.
These debates on the usefulness of philosophy are a waste of time. There is nothing that philosophy aims to teach other than critical thought and logical deduction.
The books that he is telling people to shy away from don't have practical take-aways by themselves. Critical thought into how the subject matter relates to your own experiences and the critical thinking of others (other philosophers) is where the value in reading them lies.
I can honestly say that I apply my philosophy degree EVERY SINGLE DAY at my job.
I am a Lead UI/UX Engineer & Designer.
