I was (until this announcement/today) an annual subscriber just for the early days of Autocomplete goodness that I do not use anymore but would stick around and check from time to time their progress and always hoped we would eventually have a good UI for LLMs outside the terminal.

an IDE to look at one file at a time is not interface for LLMs - it was made for people, and while I guess you can sit in the Agents mode all day, to me thats a completely different byproduct and just "Terminal is yuck" kinda users, maybe someday we'll have a proper dedicated LLM UI but we are not there yet.

I bought two Touch-ID models as gifts and while doing the setup I must say the lack of keyboard backlight is the only thing that bothered me A LOT. Great machines otherwise.

100% but I suggest doing the 1-handed pick up test with the lid open, a 900g laptop feels weightless against the 13 air at 1200g

Hopefully it allows for the macbook air to return to being a ultra light machine, I held an Asus X14 ARM at 900 grams and it felt so much better.

There's also a huge market for the M1 MacBook Air because of the old form factor of being ultra thin even if faking it with bending the shell, the boxed layouts dont fit with MBA to me. Too bad there is no 15 2021 M1.

eGPU has a ton of issues on MacOS - I've used it for years, but now on Silicon its prob much worse - but let me give a shout out to the amazing (somewhat new) High Performance screen sharing mode added in Sonoma.

When I connect to my Mac Studio via Macbook I can select that mode, then change the Displays setting to Dynamic Resolution and then my 'thin client':

- Is fullscreen using the entire 16:10 Macbook screen

- Gets 60 fps low latency performance (including on actual games)

- Transfers audio, I can attend meetings in this mode

- Blanks the host Mac Studio screen

All things that were impossible via VNC - RDP is much better but this new High Performance Screen Share is even more powerful.

The thin lightweight laptop that remotes into a loaded machine has always been my idea of high mobility instead of suffering a laptop running everything locally. This works via LTE as well with some firewall setup.

The Studio being the GPU-centric model, I can't wait for all these M4 Mini performance improvements to make to the Studio line.

I do this but mostly from trauma of having to kill things due to hosting costs (happened before), as long as its cheap/self sufficient enough the fun part dominates.

Great Timing! USERS BEWARE, my story

I used the service for two years and just had the most surreal disastrous experience since the year flipped. I religiously send a the same (about 5k USD) to my home country every month so I can pay my mortgage and other bills I left when moved to NA.

2021 arrives, I start a transfer on January 27, days pass, nothing. I contact support 10 days later (of something that in the past 24 months took 3 days), they say I need to prove I’m the recipient so I ask them to cancel the transfer so I can start it from my personal account instead so both accounts match and no documentation is needed, another 10 days go by, still nothing.

I contact support again and found out that they withheld my deposit because they needed me to give, bear with me, POWER OF ATTORNEY among tons of other more resonable documentation to the destination country bank, so instead of signing my life away I cancel the transfer again: 26 days an counting TransferWise held my money which I will NEVER deal with again and tell this tale whenever I get a chance.

Around 2015/6 I went full laptop (Razer Blade 15) with an eGPU and multiple monitors after trying the same with a MacBook Pro (poor nvidia integration) and after years of crashes, overheating laptop shells and weird Wi-Fi issues when returning from sleep with the eGPU, I just gave up.

A couple months ago I got full ATX case with the 16 core AMD CPU, the best GPU out there and it runs cool, quiet and I just RPD to it when needed (prob less than twice a year)

I just pasted a few conversations from whatsapp in portuguese and at least for that language google translate was 10x more accurate on the meaning of the very colloquial words used, mixed with English etc.

Edit: thanks for the link though, I'm saving it and trying from time to time, we use translation a ton in my household (everyone is learning English after moving abroad)

Used to draw round corners [the biggest design trend request circa 2002] using tables with cells of one pixel, painting every cell mimicking a perfect anti-aliased curve in a photoshop rectangle, a mere 32 cell table per corner, lol.

Those are allowed but have limited dimensions, doesn't matter the size of your storefront you can only have a logo of a certain size, lots of loopholes like the McDonald's M or putting huge logos inside a glass wall but in general it is followed.

GRRM has a similar approach, the outline way mentioned above is really helpful for those not that gifted, Brandon Sanderson mentions it heavily talking about his fiction writing (if you're telling a story you know you already have an outline, not the case in fiction) and is considered among the best in meeting deadlines -- outlines being one of the main tools to achieve that.

I'm working on something that, to this day, is inspired on circles -- I just think the execution was really poor, the UX of having to always decide who sees what is just too heavy and there are better ways to approach this lovely idea.

Those are closed price projects, they do use hours for reports and all but its really a fixed payout for a fixed amount of features.

Amazing how I wrote this post without typing anything in it, I bill by estimate so if something is estimated 40 hours and I do it in 2, I can get more work or just chill, I usually book my time around 200 "hours" a week and some good weeks I work 18 real hours and the bad ones around 70, pays extremely well but has very little margin for error so the bad weeks have to be rare. I had 18 straight months of good weeks and now I'm in a 6 week streak of bad ones, great/awful clients make or break this system.
