UBI is exactly what I thought of. Another reason why those who are in control would want to avoid it.
It seems like it will still require a lot of money to publish quality journalism in sources that people actually look at.
I think his definition of "lie" is very broad in the sense of presenting something to be different than it actually is. For example:
- The show makes it seem like the pitch lasts 15 minutes when it generally lasts much longer in reality (I've talked to a friend who has been on the show that has verified this).
- The show makes it seem much more dramatic than it actually is by overlapping dialogue, rearranging and timing reaction shots, and using music (to the extend of fabricating a conversation)
- The show makes it seem like an exact deal is made in 15 minutes when there is much more involved before and after the show
Given the context ("on Its Own") is doesn't seem very ambiguous.
That's what I find strange about the article. They seem to imply that it is too late because he never filed for a trademark.
Sounds like the company was http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LegalShield I remember going to one of those meetings as well.
Good point. But aren't there plenty of other public indicators of wealth?
I agree there are parallels between cases of chronic pain, but I also think there are significant differences. Someone with just chronic pain might think "This pain is too much. I don't have it in me to suffer anymore" whereas a depressed person often causes their suffering with distorted thoughts like "I am always depressed. I have tried everything possible there is to try to get better. No one likes me or wants to be around me. Everything is hopeless. I have no reason to live"
I think whether people have a right to do it (which I also believe they do), is less important than realizing that their desire and decision to do it is based on faulty logic. Depression completely changes the way people think.
Comparing yourself to others is an easy way to think negatively and possibly even descend into depression. It's important to accept who you are and what got you there and not think that your life would be so much better "if only things had been different". Things weren't different. You were given the genes you were given from parents who you didn't choose and countless other variables influenced you to become depressed and then recover at the time you did. No need to feel bad about it.
I don't mean for this to sound like a personal attack. I'm in a similar position to you and I've found it incredibly rewarding to realize that it is useless to worry about the past and what could have happened.
Looks similar to what I get with NoScript turned on.
I'm not a biology expert, but from my understanding, they wouldn't be able to "make a baby" as output. But they could make a cell that contains the specified DNA that would grow into a baby under the right conditions. Of course, we are still a ways out from having that technology.
I just started reading the book he swears by (The UltraMind Solution: Fix Your Broken Brain by Healing Your Body First by Dr. Mark Hyman) and I am appalled at how sensationalist and unscientific it is. It mixes well-proven facts (e.g. exercise, diet, sleep, and relaxation promote mental health) with absurd claims like "Just as brain problems all stem from the same root causes, they all have the same solution - The Ultramind Solution". Has anyone else read the book?
DigiNotar knew about and hid the attack. I don't believe there is any evidence that the CA/Browser Forum knew about the attack until it was made public.
There is no central authority, but each browser does have an approval process. Most require the CA to be audited annually by an organization that does WebTrust audits. Mozilla's procedures are listed at https://wiki.mozilla.org/CA:How_to_apply
I'm not sure having a central authority would be practical, but the approval process and audits need to be more thorough to find the type of security problems that DigiNotar and Comodo had.
My favorite line: "easy for me, so hard for others"
Like most, I disagree that having multiple identities are coming to an end. But I think it is a good thing that Facebook comments are being used on other sites because it will promote integrity. Not every site will use Facebook comments so when we want to dawn a different, anonymous personality, we can close the Techcrunch tab and open a different site that allows anonymous comments. Each site will have its own environment and purpose. I think it is a good thing that we are moving from an almost completely anonymous Internet to an Internet that allows you to be anonymous or not depending on the situation.
