From California, US. Just a guy. Lurker, usually prefer to read than engage, I can get too aggressive. I don't care about hurt feelings, not even my own. Egalitarian. I stand with no political party. Jaded. An asshole is the appropriate term, I believe.

Recent times have made me ashamed of what this site has become. I'm with jaquesm- this is ridiculous.

Tons of new accounts <1mo throwing the discourse out with the bath water and no one stopping them.

HN has become the LA of websites. Y'all think everyone thinks like you and anyone who doesn't is just wrong. But when it all burns down and people are cheering you will be left wondering why.

It has devolved and only gotten worse. I feel those of us who are more center have slowly but surely gone AFK and now all thats left are the two extremes.

Comments flagged for absolutely no reason, the attacks- it even feels like dang has gone hands-off lately.

Since Trump's election I've seen nothing but rule-breaking everywhere, and it has become absolutely rampant.

I dont even come here for the comments anymore. yall can have the burning garbage heap this has become- it was a good run while it lasted.

Ethan Suplee is a personal hero of mine. I've been watching him in movies since clerks, and felt bad as I saw him continue to get bigger. When he started his transformation some gym bros posted it to some forums we inhabit. He didn't want to be all public about it since he'd yoyo'd before, but we cheered him on online. When I saw he'd gone public I was so happy for him. His pic now hangs in my home gym with Arnold and Ronnie.

Not really. I just came off night shift and was thrown right back on it. We work 12 hour shifts, they alternate between forced overtime and disallowed overtime at their whims.

When I brought up I have yet to get my float (4x10s considered the 'easy' shift) I was told there was nothing they could do. All I could think was well how will you handle it when I leave?

Management really is that dense.

They care not one whit about objections nor people leaving.

Imho it's merely a matter of time but the younger guys all hold out hope. I've none left.

This is happening to me in the trades.

Im in maintenance as an industrial electrician.

New plants came to town paying current market rate and snagged most of the top talent.

Then the company started quiet-firing to avoid layoffs. It killed all motivation.

Then they froze hiring as we kept losing people. We are now short on HVAC, mechanics, and electricians.

Lucky me I'm the only guy who can do all three so im running ragged all day.

We have response times we have to meet but our vehicle (an electric GEM) had the charger die, it's only $2k but they won't let me order it so we all walk everywhere. Huge plant I easily bust 30k+ steps and 20+ stories climbed via stairs.

We then had a mechanic and an electrician take paternity leave so we are even more shorthanded. Still wont let us hire.

We lost the maintenance manager and cant get another one for what we pay and the condition the business is in now.

I love my job andy co-workers but I'm sending out resumes and interviewing because I can't take all the extra workload with no extra pay while our administration keeps getting more money and bonuses.

How do companies keep making the same mistakes over and over expecting different results? They don't, they know what's going on and are getting theirs before the bottom falls out.

You are missing the forest for the trees.

You are simply mad it doesn't benefit you directly, the problem with most people nowadays.

I also paid mine back, but I'm glad this is happening. I'm also angry we don't use the funds for ie veterans instead and I also would like reform with the bailout.

As you can hopefully see it's a very nuanced issue and you can't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.

Your every single comment here has broken the guidelines Ree Ree

Edit to beanjuice- this is the aforementioned crybully tactic. Break the rules until you do then point the ringer and ree louder.

Again we are fighting facts and they are replying with nothing but ad hominem attacks.l and nothing but.

Lol alright I'll play along troll. I now believe you may just be said community manager based on how out of touch with reality you are, and how aggressive and gaslighting when people post facts while posting absolutely nothing substantive yourself. Go back to reddit.

My video I linked explained everything as did op's.

You wre still being a crybully and your gaslighting wont work here.

Since I'm so wrong here's[1] yet another update about godot heing forked over the kerfuffle.

You can call me what you want and live in denial all you want, it wont change the facts no matter how hard you 'Reeee'

Edit to add the video. Troll wont watch but others following the thread will so it's worth it for posterity.

The person you are replying to is what we call a 'cry-bully'.

You know when you've found one by them gaslighting you while accusing you of what they themselves are doing.

The community manager is the hateful one, and did indeed make the comments, enacted the bans, and then doubled down.

You are combating their gaslighting with facts and information, while they keep spouting nonsense and making ad-hominem attacks.

For more on this see what happened with Sony's 'Concord'.

Not true.

Sure some people may have addictive personalities but by and large these things are designed to get people addicted. Someone who was never addicted to, nor ever would have normally become addicted to anything can become addicted by trying something supposedly benign as a 'game'.

I don't. You aren't signing some contract that the item will cost less woth ads- because it doesn't.

They charge us more for a dumb tv because they know we hate ads enough to pay more to lose them.

Ad companies have become actual Mafia.

They should be paying us for our attention. Period.

Rather try physical movement then and build up to exercise.

If you are consistent for long enough the body begins to crave it and you feel better afterwards.

Maybe walk then run. Or pushups then pull ups then dulbells then weights. Swimming can be a great cardio and total musculature system workout.

Find what you can do and try and remain consistent through the loss of motivation, as that will happen.

I know everyone is different but it's been infinitely more effective and a positive in my life than any medications I'd tried.

If you need someone to help cheer you on I updated my bio to include my email.

I'm glad you found a way out and if you ever decide to publish that journal I'd love to read it and see if it has any similarities to my own struggles.

I've always felt that if good times make time fly, depression stops it like a black hole.

And I hope you have or will find something to make you feel the struggle was worth it.

They just nixed ubo on chrome.

The comments on that are full of people jumping ship, as is to be expected.

Without firefox to point at as an example of how they are not anticompetitive, google is in for an even worse time wrt anti-trust.

And now that firefox won't have Google's money they will need to stand on their own again.

Firefox got markedly worse every year since they started taking Google's money.

Bullshit. The stimulus amounted to nothing and was gone instantly, with most going to bills.

The trope that the stimulus made poor people rich and thus able to spend more is farcical.

It's greed pure and simple. First they blamed covid, then supply constraints, then they just stopped with the excuses as people just assumed this is how it is now.

Also, landlords have increased rents exponentially without an increase to minimum wage.

This just perpetuates the bullshit narrative.

They are not smart. For many stupid would be an understatement.

The amount of stupid people who fail upwards is far larger than the few and far between who get there on merit.

My direct boss at the moment is one of the smartest people I've ever met. The people running the plant are some of the stupidest I've ever seen. Constant mistakes, short-sightedness, asking questions anyone who works at the plant should know in their first week, etc.

Best part is it's a relatively small city, so everyone knows everyone kinda. Our plant manager (top guy on site) was in a middle management role at his old plant (the worst in the city), where he was fired for incompetence. He wound up with us and within the year was the highest role.

We have lost countless years of experience due to people leaving over this guy and his cronies. He has no formal education, hasnt been in the plant life long enough to know anything, constantly makes idiotic decisions, etc.

These are the people who wont get out of the way of the people doing the actual work, and make their lives/work measurably worse due to their stupidity, greed, and incompetence.

A tale as old as time, yet for some reason we keep letting it happen.

You forgot about all the people making minimum wage working 40+ hours who can't afford the basics like food and shelter

Because you can cover your necessities with 20% of your income doesn't mean everyone else can.

I know several people on SSI who had to take under the table jobs because their checks wont cover their food and shelter. And that's with food stamps. If they get a regular job they lose their SSI.

Ive got a friend who had to take a part time job dashing after work as a supervisor at my factory.

I think about this stuff when I'm working overtime- how lucky I am to be able to rather than have to find a second job.

I make over 6 figures as an electrician/instrumentation technician. I have a surgery coming up in September that's going to cost me 40k+. Instead of feeling it's so much and all the other things I could use that money for, I try to remind myself I'm blessed to be able to afford it without saving for years. I, again, know people who work full time and don't make that in a year.
