Otto (http://ot.to) provides a solution for converting existing trucks into semi-self-driving trucks. I'd be very interested to hear a truck drivers take on using a device like this. In my (not a truck driver) opinion, it seems like in the short term it'll be hugely beneficial to the drivers, since the government will still be mandating that drivers be in the vehicles, but in the long term will completely kill the job.

He's using mannequins in the main picture at the top of the article, so I assume one technique would be to use mannequins as placeholders until you needed to do the distinctly human parts of the painting (hands, faces), then you could substitute a person into place and paint that part.

I'm curious what else was going on in this bill? Was it solely a bill limiting NSA data collection, or was it another one of those where NSA data collection is the headline item, then inside it is alot of other junk.

Correct. The next step on this project will be to try and get two way communication working. I ran out of time before the class ended to get that established. If I remember correctly I ran into some issues with the mobile safari and the microphone input via javascript. I believe PhoneGap provides an API for this though.

Possibly. It was an embedded systems class, and I have a background dealing more with webdev and audio systems, so I figured I could combine all three into something novel. It actually worked out really well for the purpose, which was supposed to be a power-saving application. This way required only the addition of a comparator chip between the ATMega168 and the headphone line, which made it a super low power (and computationally light) way to communicate.

I'd appreciate any feedback, especially from more experienced devs. I built this JS class to send serial commands over the headphone port of an iPhone using Javascript and the HTML5 WebAudio API. This enabled me to use an iPhone application to control my embedded systems design senior project.

As someone who goes to restaurants somewhat often, I've never thought to myself that it would be a good idea to sit down and make a website for that restaurant for free. I don't think you're going to find many restaurant customers at all that would be willing to try that. One idea I had off the top of my head to try and make the service more appealing to restaurant owners would be to have the site generate both online and offline menus.

Kind of like squarespace-for-menus, offer a wide variety of really nice templates for offline paper menus each restaurant can choose from and customize. Then when they update their menu on your website, it also automatically generates a new PDF they can print out or send to a printer without having to hire a designer/intern/nephew to make minute changes to the old menu files. I think this would be especially useful for restaurants when they do price changes on items. Could monetize the thing by dropshipping fancy printed menus to customers.

IRC chat would be my guess. Since data isn't stored on a server/can't be taken down, this seems like this could be useful in the shadier IRC rooms sharing questionable content.

Since they can increase the sales of certain items versus others by showing these exercise stats, it would be an interesting experiment to toy with the pricing to find the sweet spot where people will pay the most amount of money for those healthier items before they switch back to eating the higher caloric items.

I would be VERY curious to see what these guys' numbers are like. Is there really a viable market for yoga-via-skype? Not trying to be super negative, but for me this really served as a prime example of the type of start up mentioned in the "as-seen-on-tv" article that came up earlier this week talking about inventing elaborate ways to solve problems that don't need solving.

It's already out. They've actually got several less expensive versions of the iPhone on the market, which trade performance for a lower price. I believe they're selling under the name of "iPhone 4S" and "iPhone 4".
