for people who have tried hatchet & restate - which one do you prefer ?

I build things.
is OpenAI willing to have hire engineers & solutions architects work hand in hand with F500 companies for this to be possible ?
or again it's simply OpenAI looking for PMF to justify their valuations ?
I think it's the latter and will fail again just like Sora.
the thing about CEOs (well let us just say strategic/visionary) leaders since they're found across the whole org chart level - is finding them is very difficult since assessing their skills is also difficult.
past success does not mean future success. cz one might just have circumstantial.
so what tends to happen shitty leaders are promoted based on "reasonable/visible" metrics - such as having an MBA, etc.
yeah - I wouldn't bet against Intel.
they might have floundered in the past.
panther lakes I hear are pretty competitive with some of the apple silicone.
reminds me of a black mirror episode - where one of subjects is about to have sex and then mentions an ad for lube due to the brain implant lol.
their competition is not google.
but amazon. anything that has to do with buying has mostly been captured by amazon.
but will see what the future holds.
can someone correct me - so apple is using servers that are running a closed down version of iOS on what I would assume is apple silicone, probably excess chips or older chips for the iCloud Private Cloud ?
Age verification + plus some states trying to ban VPNs - what states miss - yeah they will destroy the so called big social networks or media providers like porn aggregation sites.
what will simply happen - due to the following - HDDs are cheap, Torrents, Open source / cheap community software like Discord
- communities will move to be mostly private and small. era of large social media is done.
for media - download content via torrent - store in cheap HDDs. you can probably get an 8TB spinning metal for $250. cheap enough and good enough.
payments - these already moved to crypto. for criminals monero.
the internet as gated by bureaucrats will be left to the dweebs.
jack dope product person & person in general - but CEO skills might be lacking.
some of these things are not news.
this is like stating that Elon Musk has a security clearance.
it's a condition of service and industry.
once a.i images took over - a lot of things that were based on images died.
going to a fancy restaurant coz of 'you can take good pics' - dead - a.i can recreate that cheaper.
which means for a certain demographic - dating apps are dead too - since those were largely based on swiping photos.
the premium of in-person / small intimate events has gone up. likewise meeting in person, or doing things with a person live.
this also means imperfection has gone up in value (imperfection is a human quality).
my apologies if you felt I was name calling you.
I was putting it out as a generality - that most engineers/founders have no background in humanities. hence they don't tend to use 'logic' to make decisions that involve humans. when 'logic' doesn't work.
so when you come to HN - and there's a story on the 1st Page about a YC company hiring - that you can't comment on - but just click.
to you is that an AD ?
for all contexts and purposes it's an ad. is it intrusive ? no. that's just a native ad. are you gonna zap it ? most times - just leaving it there makes sense than going through the effort of using the ublock origin picker.
If I put out a native ad - uBlock Origin won't work on it. since it's just an html <p> tag or any other element.
the ad industry at large has caused damage - for you to think ads are not beneficial and intrusive or mind rape as you call it - through excessive mining, data selling.
but like an example - I gave - there's an article about cars - and in there there's a text item that says BMW or Cadillac has released a new V8 or electric sedans. if you're a car enthusiast that's relevant to you, if you're not - it's still information that maybe a year down the line - you might find relevant.
not logical but it works. and that's what runs the world - whether you like it or not. see the world as it is.
remove the internet - forget the internet didn't exist.
you will see why the publishing business runs on ads. see the world for what it is not what you want it to be.
once people started publishing books or whatever in the 1600s - the world runs on ads.
it's only in the last 30 years - when ads got a bad rap due to tech bros who don't didn't learn humanities
ads are not bad. if it's publisher ads/native ads.
the bad ad ecosystem is where there's whole demand, supply side platforms and ad exchanges that mine and sell your data.
now there's better tech to do native ads without the intrusion and massive bad experience.
you're reading some article about EV's - then boom the publisher themselves can serve you a small ad - not serve you an ad about weight loss or viagra or any other shit stuff.
wordpress is so shitty - though it runs the majority of the web.
people think PHP is shitty cz of Wordpress.
at a certain point in time - people need to move to better ecosystems painful as that may be.
this would have been the perfect era for home servers - but damn Ram is expensive.
every other component is cheap enough but not Ram.
I think the author is missing a layer of abstraction.
yeah - once regulators come into play - the private ecosystems take over. discord is already a precursor to this.
the era of mass public social networks will come to the end. next it will be just private networks of individuals. likely the won't interact.
how the dynamics play out - I don't know - but if you study history - you will know what behaviors will happen.
can they pull this off - maybe - IDK the team - but this is possible.
cause of concern?
- i4 gas engine instead of using 4 electric motors - then using smaller engine to act as generator. plenty of Chinese have done this - quickest way to start a car company. otherwise they're gonna find out real soon - why other auto manufacturers went out of business or why reliability is a cause of concern even for big manufacturers. engines and powertrains can be complex.
electric motors are simpler.
or the application layer - which will capture majority of the value.
yeah hardware companies make for nice stories or green numbers on Wall Street - but value will be captured by application layer.
look at history.
my take to benefit from SQLite:
make sure you're not doing a bunch of migrations. that's the SQLite weak point that I know of & have experienced.
use SQLite - as if you're using a KV or better yet maybe a CQRS approach.
Here - https://fred.stlouisfed.org/series/MANEMP for Number of Manufacturing jobs down to 12 million. a Few years ago it was going up before trump came in again.
remember tech sector roughly employs 2 million people thereabouts.
If you have ever babysat a REFRESH MATERIALIZED VIEW cron job, or faked live views with a pile of triggers, read that sentence again: our views update themselves, live. This is the feature Postgres users have quietly wanted for twenty years.
Real-time materialized views - so far mostly Chinese tech shops have solved this - look at Apache Doris, StarRocks - but these are built on top of MySQL then maybe RisingWave which is Postgres wire compatible.
having real-time materialized views means you can take out 1 or 2 infra pieces from your stack e.g Flink & Kafka - for some simplified use cases. that means no more ETL jobs for some use cases.
remember manufacturing in the U.S employs 10X more people than tech does.
trump tariffs are the reason the numbers are going dow.
the rot starts from the top.
sama plays loose with the truth. so likely the employees are gonna follow their boss in cutting corners.
you see it everywhere in gvt/large organizations - if you come from a poor country - if the president is corrupt - the whole gvt gets corrupted.
beautiful site.
wonderful thing opening their books.
but damn consumer software is the numbers are brutal.
the number of customers you need to reach $1M vs B2B is crazy.
ZIG is already the better C.
yeah some things are old - but still important documentation of how some people live.
even though I don't use Zig - a few things make me excited.
such as new games that are gonna come - written in Zig - since its more ergonomic than C.
the other side is on the distributed software side of things - we have already seen it with TigerBeetle.
on my own end - probably robotics side.
