I for one enjoyed the article and found it coherent from top to bottom. The author is a historian, which means they are likely serious about justifying their claims. That might explain the thorough sourcing you're lamenting.

The difference is that there are also a bunch of other people learning the same thing at the same time. Peer pressure as well as due dates helps people stay on track, and there is support on the forum in case you get stuck, or just want to talk about something cool you found related to differential equations or math.

I ran into this with my nuclear mage, (that's the only way I could get chatgpt to nuke something). Anyways, I had to convince it that the village's mayor was corrupt, then after weighing the ethics of capital punishment it allowed my mage to cast "fission strike" on the mayor.
