The drop in wealth isn't even close to linear... the pareto principle suggests the decline would follow a much steeper curve...
A percentile drop of that amount is likely 2-3 orders of magnitude smaller.
Probably not poor by any means... I don't see most of those girls being happy pairing up with anyone below upper middle class..

There is most definitely a higher end market on upwork. I freelance part time there, at between $95 and $299 per hour. (The low rate for stuff that buffs my resume, the high one for deep expertise).

This... is bullshit.
Truth: I have three jobs, including running a small business and a prolific freelancing practice. The latter two have doubled my income. Despite switching day jobs in the middle of the pandemic.
So...how's my day job?
- Current Day job just gave me a 10% off-cycle raise, for stepping up and doing the work of several executives who left. More to come there.
- Last job is begging me to come back, due to the impact of my time there.
So seriously, screw the WSJ. Having multiple gigs has honed my time management and focusing skills to a fine art, not to mention providing me with a wealth of perspective for solving problems (since odds are, I've probably seen them before).
Becoming Studs Terkel for the gig economy. Working with people who have done different gig / freelance jobs successfully and asking them how they did it... (a no-bs, show your numbers alternative to the YouTube gurus...)
Just canceled a trip to California and the reverse of this was a very real concern. Popping positive in Cali and having no place to stay...
Sorry, bad idea... conflict of interest minefield and very high risk of having your level of dedication to your employer being questioned...
