Great article. My father was a software engineer at DEC in the mid-80s through the 90s and we often had DEC equipment at home. I grew up playing FLIGHT on a MicroVAX, learning BASIC programming on a Rainbow, and creating crazy answering machine greetings on a DECtalk.

I posted a "Who's Hiring" post as an employee seeking a referral bonus. I got a few leads from that and ultimately referred two of them, one of whom we hired and is still working with us (and me) nearly three years later.

Totally agree. I do a lot of interviews for my employer and no one cares about your GPA or really even your degree once you have some work experience.

My 17-year-old Honda minivan does the same. A few seconds on the brakes while going down a steep hill will trigger a downshift.

As a frequent motorcyclist, being able to see over a station wagon doesn't matter when most vehicles on the road (in my area) are SUVs and pickup trucks.

When I'm not on 2 wheels, I'm most often in a minivan, too.

Depends how fast it's going.

The new Lightning comes in around 6500 lbs. Maybe you saw a number for the old Lightning from the 90s, which was around 4600 lbs.

That's because lots of planes flying today are still from the 1950s.

Mainstream taste in audio is crap. Designing headphones for a target audience that thinks Spotify HQ mode is sufficient is not going to produce a very good product, audio-quality-wise.

Mainsteam taste is what sells products. Obviously you're not part of the target market and should probably just move on.

Strong writing skills are part of being qualified for any remote job.

It's complicated, right? Effective writing and reading comprehension are necessary to produce and parse code of any sort. Math is necessary to construct and analyze the algorithms that are implemented or described in the code.

You can be a good coder (writing) but not a great engineer (math). Likewise the converse is also true.

Sounds like maybe you need to review your choice of employer.
