Software tech in China is a different landscape. It's really common to reinvent the wheel in China. Almost every big name (Bytedance, Meituan, etc) have their own of everything with both office political and in house need reasons.
The thing is those stuff are so prevalent those in house tech have reach the point they are competitive. This doubles for quant firm like DeepSeek.
Hezbollah has been firing rockets to civilian area a day after Oct 7 attack with intent to kill civilians to this day.

You can replace AI with X where X is significant climate changer and it will be always true.
What AIGC is capable today will displace a large amount of workforce and many of them won’t be able to keep up the change(be it age, skills that were valuable but now nullified by AIGC).

Most modern SEA country don't have those issue: Singapore, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao, Japan, South Korea.
They all had severe drug problem in the 20th century. They all have drugs get you an express ticket to firing squad, and all of them don't have major drug problem today.
As for Philippine, they are close to failed state since 80s. Drugs lords are rampant, Duterte despite being frowned upon many philippines like him since he's only man are willing to do something about it.
Coming from SEA I always wondering why the west don't ban the drugs.
Yes, illegal drug abuse is still an issue here, but it's nowhere close to major contributor of death and crime.
I think this hearing showed how important playing politics is for any career.
One can be absolute incompetent and clueless in everything but as long as they are good at being performative and playing politics. They can reach top level of organization, have all the power and money without much of the responsibility.
Even if one doesn't like politics, knowing how to read people and identifying politics in play is crucial as an insurance in career.
It's bleak, but that's the way human works.

On paper it's nice and all but it's just not there yet. I've seen so many hype around WASM since 20 but the promised vision is always "any time soon", this triggers my hype alarm a lot.
Say what you will about Frontend/js ecosystem, at least most js project tells you exactly what value it will bring within 3 screen scrolls. I believe it's better for rest of the SWE community take a page or two from js.

From consumer’s perspective they don’t care where it came from. In commercial setting(read: 99%) it’s always get stuff cheaper and better. AIGC fits both, the only better options is run faster than the waves and hope it don’t take you(i.e. “learn to code”)

This is same as BitTorrent did to software/music industries. “Piracy is not steal”, “music labels are too rich”. Spin it all you want. The original business model are built on certain level of difficulty to duplicate the product.
