My story is rather dated and admittedly only one data point, but when I was in my early teens (early 2000s), WYSIWYG editors like Frontpage and Dreamweaver were the tools I used to self-learn the basics of web dev. The issue though was that those editors were rather bloated and ran very poorly on the machine my mother had bought me, so it became increasingly favourable to seek something lighter weight and non-WYSIWYG as I learnt more about the languages of the web and grew more competent. stumbled upon BBEdit and used it to a) grow my knowledge of the languages and; b) be able to build things in a more productive manner without the computer grinding to a halt. I think perhaps learning to code through WYSIWYG and then migrating to text editors is a common pathway?

In his defence, he is taking a stance equipped with the knowledge of his own personal past mistakes, to avoid making them again.

As cliché as it sounds, only you know the true answer to this. Pick a small project and build it using a few different frameworks. This should give you insight into what's most appropriate for your needs.

Sublime is dead. No one is actively developing it.

This isn't correct, at least according to the author. This was posted in the ST forum on Mar. 18, 2014 [1]:

Can't you modify the number of grid columns in Bootstrap? I use Foundation 5, and there is an option within settings.scss which allows you to change the default 12 column grid, eg:

  $total-columns: 24;

The devs that created React are using React + Backbone.Router for Instagram's desktop site.

It's very easy to integrate Backbone.Router into a project.

I have, it's great to be able to write DB functions in Python. Only downside is that Amazon RDS does not currently support this extension!

It is somewhat akin to spec work within the design field[1], in that only the top performers make money and everyone else goes home empty handed despite their hours of work. However, I've noticed that most of the near-winners tend to open source and share their solutions on GitHub, so one could argue that it helps the community (unlike say 99 designs, on which non winning entries are basically worthless).

Thanks for sharing. Do you know whether that 50% fee is fixed, or is it variable based on the amount of prize money you put up? That does seem like a ridiculously high figure!

This is exactly why I love SocketStream. The extensibility of it is great. I can use one of the several thousand existing node modules/libraries and install them easily via NPM. In addition, development has been active and Owen (the lead dev) is extremely responsive to any issues on the GitHub repo.

Looks good, though it still looks like there is no way to sort results like FQL's ORDER BY command?

I also compared Derby vs Meteor vs SocketStream and settled on SocketStream due to the level of control and maturity it provides.
