Other times it's simply for reference purposes. So if you're talking about current enterprise architecture, the AI itself needs something to reference in order to answer.

You make a good point but it's also subjective. The documentation we need is all technical in nature so we aren't looking for Shakespeare or Tolkien here. We just need it to be accurate and usable, which it is.

You're not wrong, but we've had a huge shake up internally and all of the people that used to complain about not having it are now in a position to create it and approve it. They just don't care anymore because now its just AI.

Yes. That was just the writing portion, there is a whole team that works on publishing and proof reading and there are acceptance levels all the way up to the CISO where people validate they read it and approved of the contents. Even with that, no one cares about it.

The uncanny valley is happening with enterprise work. My boss is in love with Copilot writing documentation that we've sorely needed for many years. He and I can bang out tons of it in minutes that would have taken months before. We do this and then no one reads it.

I've asked people about it and they seem disillusioned. It wasn't written by a human so they see no human value in it. They view it as AI writing documentation for another AI to summarize to them and then another AI to reply or comment. So they don't care or are actively repulsed by it.

I think AI has a long uphill battle in winning over the average Joe.

You have to be fair on this though. The time to ban something is before they start talking about doing it, not after. Being ahead of the game is never a bad thing, especially when small towns are so easily exploited due to income and infrastructure. They just can't afford long legal battles.

I can pull up all my passkeys in 1Password or Bitwarden without issue.

Passkeys are just SSH keys in how they work. We've been doing this since the 90's. The only people that use SSH keys are the Linux savvy users and those who are forced to via an enterprise solution for vaulting.

The average person doesn't know anything about this stuff nor do they care. I also have yet to see a Passkey solution that didn't also have a password on it and a nice little box letting people choose to use the password instead of the passkey. They just added a new layer on top of all the old ones and created confusion. Now people use password and passkey interchangably in conversations and no one knows what they are talking about.

Are the Chinese models actually catching up or are they just distilling the frontiers? If it's all just distilling then they'll always be behind.

They should be, I see them as the prime targets for AI. Most of what they do is bullshit, they're often massively over paid, and AI will produce answers 100 times faster than they will.

The Steam client for starters but pretty much every game they initially released since 1997 was extremely buggy. They also struggle very hard to even release much anymore. I'll give them kudos on supporting OSS and their Proton development.

I've been curious to see what happens with all of this. I think a lot of people have been caught in a perpetual upgrade cycle they probably didn't need to be in but were out of decades old habits. The lack of hardware may start to change habits and behaviors to where the masses begin to ignore upgrade cycles. I'm already doing this myself.

I generally find Valve's software quality subpar but their ethics to be vastly superior to anyone else's. For that reason they are the only place I'll even look for games anymore. They aren't perfect but they at least don't hate me like Epic does.

I can believe it with startups as they are trying to keep costs down. Established Enterprise however, is a different story and is where the money is usually. If those startups become successful the story may change, but most of them will fail.

Correct. That is one of the worst types of engineers too. Constant paralysis by analysis. It's why Agile became a thing because those people just refuse to ship anything until it's utterly perfect and spotless. Fortunately they are a minority though.

A manager is the subordinate. Their entire role is to provide for the employees the things and support needed to get their jobs done. Corporations arent the military, there are no "superior's" except in the minds of the mentally and emotionally fragile who think they were put there to rule over others.
