I feel like the web is under attack. They want chatgpt in desktop app so they can start moving people away from chatgpt via web. Web being suspectible to automation is driving everything into locked down apps. The very toxic reddit.com a prime example of this -- forbidding mobile web access behind a timed wall.

Just going to chime in that a year ago chatgpt was really struggling with robot framework. O3 era. Even apart from ai's ability to write working code in it I hate that dsl pseudo semantic bullshit

Not an anthropic fan but in fairness people know how to use it in the most literal sense. Few tools come with documentation on how to use them "well"

How people prompt and the output that ensues is valuable data. So they would probably want variety as a free live experiment.

I would like if we could have a site where you submit your MRI then doctor commenters anonymously post their opinion. In general I want a forum where.. when people come with questions for which there are varying opinions we don't just have people leave their 2c and then jet. The thread persists, duplicated ideas get merged, erroneous statements get purged and gradually we refine shining truth

Some kind of routing prompts to different models does make sense. But the usecase of saving money on simple prompt.. I think that has only a slight benefit. Fix my typo doesn't use many tokens anyhow.. also model switching still requires carrying over context so it does have some overhead right.

I remember working for a somewhat careless manager.. he just pointed at the chrome web dev store and said 'make it look like this'. I could have just copied everything wholesale but I actually handcrafted all the css, borrowing but generally using my own HTML structure, and js. The final result impressed even me. It made me feel.. if I worked on a team with real designers I could create something I would be proud of.

Shortly before COVID there was a string of amber alerts arriving in the wee hours of the morning in Ontario regarding missing children. Didn't matter where in the province (larger than many European countries) it happened the alerts would to out regardless. A mix of people complaining about it and social media about why you're a bad person if you don't welcome these alerts. But inevitably they went away by and large. Not aware of any stated policy change I just suspect that they have become more conservative about sending them out because it was frankly ridiculous. Rousing millions of people from bed with any regularity over things they absolutely do nothing about would have only snowballed into a demand that it stop, even with the social media engine shaming people

If you believe AI is so incredibly useful.. then actually you should be happy to reap the advantages of it whilst the "anti" crowd buried their heads in the sand. I have seen people on this forum unironically ask what AI can't do. As if they have genuinely tried yet failed to plumb the depths of its ability. If I had a genie in a bottle then I would simply make wishes and not worry about correcting the record. Whereas if people are using a broke genie to create slop that inconveniences me I'd be upset. So a better question is.. if you there is nothing this genie can't do why aren't you quietly churning out masterpieces

the tooling has quite a ways to go to catch up to the llm engines that drive the real value. I have encountered various codex bugs (I know not anthropic) which tell me that.. these billion dollar companies, if they are eating their own dog food, can still release buggy crap software.

you are probably right. I knew that my position contains the kind of anthropomorphism that usually gets proven wrong by history. however.. we are in fact talking about technology here not evolution. and yes technological progress is fraught with accident and emergence but to this degree?

I suppose its also just a philosophical discussion because while we can all agree we are conscious.. afaik its not really a scientific term. I don't think we understand scientifically what really defines consciousness. So I think it is likely we may deem our computers conscious because they exhibit the same behaviour that we do, but it doesn't mean they actually possess it. Practically speaking it may not matter, because I think you can have long horizon agency without needing consciousness. just a mechanism for determining goals, which could be as simply as rolling a digital dice or following some original seed of intention left by the creators.

its like the chinese room argument I suppose. the hypothetical chinese room is not conscious but ultimately it doesn't matter. But I don't think anyone would call such a thing conscious.
