I would say this month we are buying expensive personal subscriptions for the people who really need AI and canceling subscriptions for people who really don’t adopt it instead of having Gemini Claude and ChatGPT subscriptions for everyone for all 3. We just have cheap Gemini with google workspace for everyone and high end personal for power users.

Anecdotal but this is the current state at our company.

Anecdotal but

I feel they are pushing their own narrative without really having any evidence.

We use Microsoft at work because we would either use Microsoft or Google for email. The email service is critical to the choice. We can’t run our own reliably and other vendors just don’t interoperate the same way.

Microsoft Office simply isn’t that expensive and it’s very easy to hire people who know how to use it and are comfortable with it. We don’t usually libre office because it’s really not practical to spend hours retraining expensive knowledge workers. Payroll is over half of our budget and our largest single expense. Software is cheap and isn’t even close.

I think that generally if you ignore the 5 star review and then look for a staircase pattern of 4, 3, 2 and 1 star reviews on yelp or google then that place is generally awesome. If most reviews are either 5 stars or 1 stars then the place probably sucks. It generally indicates tha legit users are giving a bad review and the company is trying to mask this by recruiting or paying for 5 star reviews. I find the histogram shape to be far more useful than the review average.

Basically businesses only pay for 5 star reviews and 1 star reviews are generally a really bad indicator so the quantity of reviewing in all other categories is the most useful and the size and scope of 1 star review in relation to non fake reviews are really useful indicators

Wall Street research is a scam mostly because efficient market hypothesis suggests that real research would cost so much more than this type of coverage and distribution would be much less so obviously the research is for some other purpose and you can’t purchase stock advice for far less than it is worth and most people can’t afford it.

Maybe it’s one of those absurd situations where canceling a service doesn’t actually stop the charges. Instead, they quietly begin billing you for some random add-on that was bundled with the original service. You never knew it existed, never knew it had to be canceled separately, and now you’re paying full price for a completely pointless ghost service because the only thing it was tied to has already been canceled.

It sounds ridiculous, but something very similar happened to me with Amazon WorkSpaces. During the WorkSpaces setup, an AWS Active Directory (Directory Service) instance was provisioned as part of the deployment. When I later canceled WorkSpaces, I had no idea the Directory Service had to be deleted separately. I kept getting billed for it, and it ultimately cost more per month than the WorkSpace itself had.

I didn’t really mean that both sides are the same. I meant that both sides drum up crisis rhetoric when they aren’t in power and ignore it when they are in power, but when they are in power they all increase anyways.

Therefore voting for either party isn’t going to result in an actual decrease, because there is no serious party in the United States that is objectively trying to reduce the deficit.

I used to deeply care about this, but I find that generally the party not in power always complains about this and then immediately stops complaining once they are in power, so I have trouble taking it seriously.

For Example: Republicans when Obama was in Office, Democrats when Trump is in Office, Republicans when Biden is in Office

It’s been like 2 decades of both parties complaining and then doing nothing about it once they gained power.

Makes me wonder if it’s possible to add images to QR codes. Not a swastika of course but if you can remove something, can you add it?

Really enjoyed your article.

Some random chart feedback. I found the use of red for elite colleges and then the use of red to mean white applicants to make the article slightly harder to read and understand. Recommend changing using completely different colors from that chart to he next one, because they are completely unrealted axis and

Honestly, I find performant pricing where they test each model on the same task is much more useful than figuring out the tokens or using the input token tax.

The reason being is that the only tokens I feel I really control are the input tokens, but the whole program seems to just run itself and they just charge you what they want to charge you and it’s more of a black box.

Very interesting article though.

Does anyone else feel like it would be great to be able to purchase $4000 AI box but 128 gigs is not enough. If I spend all that money and it doesn’t really do what I wanted to do, whats the point?

It’s kind of like general aviation where you can go buy a Cessna but it’s only going to realistically get you somewhere you could drive anyways but do you really wanna spend that mush cash to get road trip distance at slightly better than road trip speeds? You really need a 5 million dollar jet and that’s just not practical. That’s sort of how I feel about this device.

I think it’s outrageous that pseudoephedrine has become difficult and annoying to purchase while they put that ineffective garbage out through all these combo drugs.

It would be really nice if they included clustering support like a blueprint on how to buy several of these and cluster them to run the really large models in the best way possible.

I don’t agree with this. While, it may be true that E2E carries risks of government surveillance.

E2E makes it less likely that your information will get hacked and reduces the risk that employees will access your information.

The reality is that these security claims are generally subject to internal audit and would need company wide collusion and the risk of a whistleblower or disgruntled former employee if they were violated provides some level of protection that a large tech company offering of e2e doesn’t mean some level of benefit from the user compared to perfect encryption security.

Am I the only one who thinks it's creepy to click a link to a website and immediately get asked for a location?

I agree why they reverse the x axis makes this graph very hard to understand for the casual observer.

I feel the main useful feature that I’m looking for is the ability to use the unlimited multipoint on other devices. The 2 points that most other devices gives you is terrible. It would be nice to be able to quickly connect to my voip deskphone at work from time to time.
