I'd be very surprised if the "average" developer across the board was in fact not just a JavaScript / TypeScript only developer. I have no expectations or really even hope that the average developer I work with has ever written a line of assembly.

Their lives are probably not that more complex than others. They’re just neurodivergent or too task oriented in how they operate and need that structure to give them comfort and confidence.

I think you're making up a narrative in your head to support your bias against Disney here.

TASM 1 was definitely well received when it was released. It was tarnished by the slop that was TASM 2, which lead to Sony being able to come to a licensing agreement with Marvel Studios, to use Spider-Man in the MCU. I think it's an extreme stretch to think Disney had any nefarious doings in the public opinion of those movies, Sony did that to themselves and has proven time-and-time again they cannot make a good quality movie with their Spider-Man IPs.

The Rise of Skywalker is at 51% on Rotten Tomatoes, that was universally acknowledged to be terrible, even by the "critics". Disney definitely was also not able to silence or drown-out the absolute outrage by the cast and fans of the treatment of Luke in The Last Jedi.

Why would Marvel / Disney spend any effort sabotaging the DCEU when Warner Bros. was good at doing it all themselves? If Marvel was worried about DC stealing their audience, they would have focused more on movies like The Batman, not some c-grade antihero most people have no idea about? The Rock fostered a lot of the ill-will towards that movie himself.

I say all this but I also think it's accurate still to say reviews are trustworthy but I don't think they ever have been. I don't think this is some new phenomenon, just people are more aware of the corruption embedded in the system.

And then what, be out out of a job because you were insubordinate? If you have the personal wealth and security to lose your job and possibly not have a new opportunity for the next year or so, then that's great. Not everyone has that security, and a roof over their head just may be more important than personal convictions about how to treat users.

Media literacy, social media literacy, and internet literacy are critical for all ages, as without it you could be 10 or 40 and be equally influenced by some "influencer" you watch daily videos from. There are plenty of adults who react just as equally as a child would. Age does not guarantee maturity or competency.

It's getting even dumber because these studio curated streaming services don't even have their entire library available on their dedicated service. Want to watch 2007 Transformers in the US? Well too bad, no one is actively streaming that one. Want to watch Transformers 2? Better have Max! Super frustrating as a customer.

IANAL but this can be risky in the US still because if you're not careful and demonstrate a clear separation of your business funds and your personal funds it can let those pursuing you for money owed to pierce the veil, thus losing a huge benefit of the LLC.

The Godot game engine cannot include any of the Nintendo Switch SDK nor can your game include any of the Nintendo Switch SDK or APIs unless you are a registered Nintendo developer and have signed their NDA. You cannot share any of Nintendos proprietary code or information.

So you could share your source code for a Switch game, minus any code or SDKs specific to the Switch.

Small studios absolutely will return to Unity. This whole debacle will be a faint memory a year from now, the marketing machine will continue and indie developers will become entrenched in Unity's C# ecosystem, build tooling, all-in-one package + asset store. Some indies won't return sure, but Unity will continue to maintain it's foothold with indie developers.

Dumb question, and this is just me not Googling... but what do ATC do after their forced retirement at 56? That's still to young to retire, or will be for most people in the future and that's pretty late in someone's life. Are there natural progressions within the industry that they can move onto post being a controller or are they restarting from scratch in a new field?

While I don't know the Rust code, this isn't necessarily solely a Unity problem. Unity's C# API provides a lot of footguns that game developers tend to not think about in the near term. Lots of code bases I've seen in Unity don't do a good job of caching component instances, or just never opened the profiler to see their GC is off the charts. Unity can run really well if the proper thought and care is put into it.

I'm in a grad program for Software Engineering. At my university, the only difference between the Comp Sci and Software Engineering degree is that comp sci requires an advanced algorithm class whereas software engineering has a capstone class where you have to work with a team to build a MVP that is unit tested, uses CI/CD, and obviously works.

I say this to highlight the parent comment. I'm essentially in a computer science program and we have learned absolutely 0 about paging or memory in any of my required courses. We practically don't touch OS anything in any of the classes. That's not to say the courses for that aren't offered but they aren't part of the core curriculum and over my time in my program, they've mostly not been offered due to lack of student interest.

TLOU Part I != TLOU (2013). It's a complete remake from the ground up built off of TLOU Part II engine enhancements. Your point still stands that it's a bad port as it runs on the PS5 just fine and shouldn't be choking decently spec'd PCs.

I’ve been doing the job hunt grind since being laid off in early December. If my initial phone screen is with a recruiter it’s usually 15 to 20 minutes. They usually just reconfirm what’s on my resume and validate I can legally work in the US. If my initial screen is with a hiring manager it’s always been over 45 minutes long. One screen I had which was over zoom, mind you I had no prior contact with anyone at this company other than applying to a job posting, turned into a technical interview that went on for over an hour and the call had been scheduled for only 30 minutes, that was fun…

If you have an Nvida card you could use Nvidia broadcast. It runs as a virtual microphone that other apps can target as the voice input. So Nvidia broadcast will receive the raw input from your real microphone, process it, and feed it to any applications that are targeting the Nvidia broadcast mic as their voice input. It also doesn't appear to add any noticeable latency.
