A lot of people seem to be missing the point that the reputational damage that is being done by the Trump administration right now is nontrivial and will not be unraveled quickly. The creation of a new economic trade zone between S.A. and the EU, the halting of the EU/US trade deal, Canada creating new trade deals with China...all of this spells disaster for the US. Despite what the right wing thinks, all countries play together in a big sandbox with each other and this idiocy and isolationism is not going to make us more wealthy or more safe.
To boil down my take down to virtue signaling is a reductio ad absurdum. You desperately need more education on US history in Latin America.

Many of the replies to my comment ascribe support for Maduro where there is none. However, I’m still sorry for what we have done. I don’t think there was a single motivation behind it aside from acquiring Venezuelan oil and gold reserves through thinly veiled piracy. Anyone who says we did it to topple a dictator is a rube or myrmidon. Too many unpredictable outcomes have been birthed from government foolishness like this in the past for me to believe it will end any differently.

I can't help but think this is going to end so poorly for the innocent men, women, and children in Venezuela. I feel for them. While Maduro seems to not be loved, these periods of violent transition can result in horrid outcomes for the local populace. I can only hope my fellow Americans start to see the light and vote the current administration out of office. I'm not hopeful.
Watching the Great Brainwash happen in real time has given me (I hope) a lot of insight into how anti-fascist Germans must have felt before WWII. It's a hell of a thing to watch half the people you know fall victim to the deluge of simplistic, feral propaganda that's been pouring out of our media sources for quite some time now. YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and other socials being the primary driving force. All platforms that are incentivized to spread rage and misinformation, and yet we can't seem to quit them as a culture. We rationalized their existence and non-regulation because BUSINESS and FREE MARKET. It's a real sad time for America. We should have known better. It's all of our faults, collectively. For not being big enough to shun the pressure and money. For not doing what was right all along. Now, we'll reap the whirlwind.

I very much agree with this and did exactly the same thing not too long ago. I have a few small apps running on my Raspberry Pi. I converted it to run from a flash drive and it has been very, very solid for about a year now.
sigh I've lived with family members who have hand-wavy opinions like this. I also have the unique-ish experience of having been part of a charismatic Christian cult in my earlier life that was constantly hand wringing about the end of the world. There were weekly "prophecies" about Armageddon due to gay rights, peak oil, financial system collapse, abortion, anything-we-don't-like-understand-or-are-uncomfortable-with, etc.
One thing that was burned into my mind from this experience is that human beings' ability to divine the future is significantly limited as the time horizon moves to the right. You might be able to predict what is going to happen tomorrow, next week or even next year with some accuracy, but as soon as the timeline extends beyond that, there are simply too many variables to predict what will happen with too much accuracy.
My father has been predicting/prophesying global collapse of the financial system "next year" for 20 years now. It may happen due to climate change or nuclear war or pandemic or asteroid impact or or or or....but it sure as hell won't be because he prophesied it. Climate change is a serious risk and it needs to be addressed but being fatalistic about it is a completely self-destructive and incorrect approach.
In the meantime, because my father has refused to save for retirement, take care of his physical health, or pay off his mortgage due to "the world collapsing next year", he is now living in near destitution with a life-threatening illness, and no retirement money. This is a man who used to make a million dollars a year as an HP consultant in the 90s/00s. It can happen to anyone.
Mindset matters. Don't ignore risk but fatalism helps no one, least of all, yourself.
I host web apps that I serve on my local network only. Little utility apps for myself and my fam and the like.
I have a Pi 4 (8gb) that I use as a home web server. I use a USB flash drive for the OS (Raspbian)/storage and run Apache on it. I have it running in a case with heat sink and a fan. It's quite a useful device for my purposes but it simply isn't up to the task of general computing. I notice big lags when trying to do literally anything. Even just opening up a code editor (VS Code) and a single browser tab you'd think the thing was on its last legs.
I ssh into it from my Windows machine and that seems to work really well. I have noticed a slight amount of lag in the ssh sessions but it's nominal and not a show stopper.
That being said, I only use it as a server and for the last year haven't had a single issue with it. I love it for what it is and want as many as I can get my hands on.

Again, I'm not sure how dumb bombing entire cities that haven't been evacuated, maternity/childrens wards, and fleeing civilians _doesn't_ qualify as genocide, but I guess we will just have to agree to disagree.
I think the definition of genocide is very clear and after watching the daily footage from Ukraine, it's quite difficult to make the argument that there isn't intent to wipe out a large portion of the population systematically. Yeah, their names aren't in a spreadsheet maybe, yet, but this is just beginning.
