I dont know, its not broken for me: I cant tell you how many times ive compared prices for something im looking at to Amazon and placed an order right there if the price difference was significant enough.

Where does Rockerbox source the products it sells? Is it simply a mobile facade for a shopping.com API or amazon referrals?

Nearly all of these use cases are covered by a number of social enterprise platforms such as Yammer or Socialcast without the need for new employees to setup filters.

In Socialcast activity streams can be filtered by groups which could be public, private or externally facing(meaning you can invite people outside your company to participate in them). People can be notified directly by @-mentioning them in your posts and so forth. And of course all the content is searchable and filterable.

The usefulness of these social enterprise tools was not clear to me until I saw it being used in both a 40-people company and a 13,000-people company. It brings about collaboration, transparency, a way for people to discuss their issues and to often vent about things they dont like.

Maybe its time for Stripe to check it out too :)

How is Hall's "real-time" real-timier than those of Yammer's or a number of other enterprise activity-stream apps?

Its pretty much a given that an activity stream app will use an socketi.io-ish messaging systme for real-time updates, some sort of APN service for mobile notifications and a visual tool for in-web-app notifications.

What does Hall bring to the table that differentiates it from other Activity stream[1] apps

#hint We have a Freemium model where 99% of features are provided for free to companies with less than 50 users.

I use rubymine on fairly large codebase and while I did initially experience slowdowns with Ruby3 on a machine with 4GB ram, both software upgrades and a switch to faster cpu with 8gb of ram and an SSD drive has improved things drastically.

You have to remember that the way Jetbrains code analysis works is that it indexes the hell out of your code to allow you jump to function definitions using CMD-B, error identifications, code completion, etc. CTRL-B alone make learning a new codebase a lot simpler. I appreciate visual debugger a lot. It allows me to avoid polluting my code with debugger statements which is especially evident with conditional debuggers.

The article is mostly scaremongering, but the reason I posted it was mostly the 401k comments.

Any "old timers" (meaning those that put money away into 401k through out at least 2 recent market crashes, dotcom and the financial one) here willing to comment as to how their 401k fared? The biggest advantage I see(especially working for the company that does the matching) is that

a) Its a saving account that you cant take money out on a whim

b) Employee matching is free money

c) Youre not paying taxes untill youre ready to take it out and when you do take it out, your tax liability will be lower due to lower income

So you have all these financial advantages in 401k, the disadvantage is that you have to invest these funds wisely.

Those that do answer, please mention what country and/or State youre in as things different depending on your locale. Freelancers union for instance does not offer health insurance in california.

If anything, it may launch a space race and help boost the US space spending as well

just an FYI, guys. Due to virality of this post and the waves of support on twitter, I got phone calls from both paypal executive offices and ebay's fraud teams that not only did resolve my issues, but also hinted at a serious effort at apprehending this fraudulent individual.

Its very unfortunate that it took this community outcry to get this far. Im currently working on a "post-mortem" overview of my what happened in the past few days resolution-wise and ill post it on my blog.

Tech-wise, its pretty amazing how much load a static octopress-based blog hosted for free on github pages would handle.

Also im pretty glad I chose to host the pictures on picasaweb. Hosting them on S3 would turn out pretty pricey :)

You make this process seem so simple that im eager to learn it.

Can you outline steps necessary to subpoena paypal without having access to an expensive legal letterhead(that comes with an hourly legal bill attached) and to actually follow through this subpoena into getting requested documents.

I was able to get a phone number for supposedly a legal department, but I was told in so many terms to only have a lawyer call them. Im sure if pressed, paypal would give out their legal teams address.

Thousand times this. Their buyer filtering options are laughable.

If they were to let me limit sales to people with certain types of addresses, purchases of certain value, a reasonable number of feedback, etc, that would be very helpful in reducing a chance of being defrauded

I sort of agree, but again, Paypal is also enabling this to continue by refusing me the chance to bring my case to the credit card company.

Short of legal action, they would not let me get the contact info for the buyers credit card company in order for me to deal with them directly.

Exactly! Paypal is the middleman here and they are preventing me from going directly to the credit card issuer and providing them with extensive documentation proving fraud.

Not only that, they are making it extremely inconvenient to have any sort of communication with them
