My personal answer to this is logging very little during normal operation and then logging a lot during errors. Depending on the maturity of the system “a lot” might mean the entire state so I can debug afterwords.

Mostly noun recall. I can mentally picture and describe thing or person X, but when I'm having the problem it could possibly take me 30 minutes to figure out the name of X without looking it up.

I prefer the density of the original, but your addition of "Today", "Yesterday", "Wednesday"... buttons is excellent. That is much more useful than the infinite scroll on the vanilla homepage.

I've started enjoying older printed books again. There's solace knowing that it was at least made by a person.

Taking methylcobalamin B12 supplements essentially fixed my memory problems. Early on I tried out the cyanocobalamin type and got absolutely nothing from it.

If I stop taking the supplements for a few weeks, the memory problems come back. If I start again, a week later my memory is excellent. It’s well worth the minor effort.

I believe the opposite. The issue is that destroying requires much less effort than creating.

I was talking about clients and servers in the classic setup, not for cloud gaming. My parent was talking about game ping and I was pointing out that cloud services are even more sensitive since you’re not interacting with the game client locally.

The latency between peripheral input and visual feedback is much more important than the latency between a game client and server. The servers have all sorts of mitigation strategies to compensate. For inputs, it’s all on the human. Which feels bad.

Keyboards are an endless money pit for me. Every year or so I’ll randomly get dissatisfied with my setup and seek to somehow upgrade it. At some point I’ll have to admit that it’s because I just like playing with new hardware… but maybe not today :)

I’d be 100% on-board if they changed this from a list of URL’s they define to a list I define. Web extensions sound great until you realize how much power you’re handing to arbitrary code once you allow it reading and writing to the DOM. They can forward anything to anywhere, sandboxing goes out the window

For apples-to-apples, you’d look at Denver. We’re talking about the state’s 4th largest city which is 65 miles away from the capital and otherwise in the middle of nowhere. It’s extremely expensive for what it is

I am from Colorado and went to school in Fort Collins. It maybe be small nationally, but it’s probably the 4th biggest tech area in CO after Denver, DTC, and Colorado Springs. Cost of living is surprisingly high unless you live in student housing.

Consider that without modern efficiency gains there would be significantly fewer people alive today, and that you might not be in the “extra” portion that we do have now. Is that a fair trade off? If we dropped all further advancements in the name of tradition I’d say that’s equivalent to giving up as a species.

The FONY (ie SONY) logo in Akira is really important to me. It’s a flawless pun, a fake brand, and does it in only 4 characters!

I made a drastic improvement in my mindset with regards to media backlogs when I realized that they they exist to entertain me and that my whims are the only thing that matters. I don’t owe that pile of books anything. Now they’re not allowed to generate stress, only entertainment!

This is something society needs to deal with. If not for groups like them eventually the media will be lost. IMO there should be a rule that if something isn’t for sale by the rights holder for X years it becomes legal to distribute copies freely.

This is my exact worry with things like chat gpt polluting the scrapable internet. The feedback loop might eventually ruin whatever value the models currently have by filling them with incorrect but plentiful generated nonsense.

I’ve recently gotten over this sentiment with my electronics. When I was a kid, each device was an irreplaceable gift from a parent or represented the investment of a long time saving. So each device was treated with the absolute care. As a result I spent a lot of time babying hardware. Now I’m a few generations of hardware into being an adult and am retiring perfect condition objects that are just too slow. For what? I’ve come to the conclusion that I’m allowed to use devices exactly how I feel like it. They exist as tools for me to use! Looking back at my chunky MacBook cover in college is funny, now. What’s the point of a fancy surface finish on the hardware if you never get to see it?

My biggest hurdle reusing old phones and tablets is the battery failing over time wile living on the charger. We need a project or company that makes dummy batteries that just report 100% full all the time.

Why? That’s hundreds per day.
