Nice article. I like the Barbican and have spent a fair bit of time there over the last 25 years. I even worked out how to get from A to B without getting lost. Not been recently though.

The appearance of various Barbican adjacent locations in Slow Horses was a nice touch. And very on-point given the nature of Slough House.

Do they still have the rubber foot pedals to make the water come out of the taps in the public loos? Of course, being the Barbican the loos smell appalling and the taps frequently don't work, but it's all part of the charm.

And guess who is paying for her mistake? Everyone except the perpetrator. That bank refund comes from somewhere.

In reality I think the seller will eat this fee by having to reduce the selling price. But your point remains.

In the UK, ebay will add 75p plus 4% to private seller prices. Somehow they still describe their service as free to private sellers.

This is a nice idea. The problem is longevity. I'd be willing to bet this product disappears after a few years (best case scenario) and you are left with no ability to buy new heads and end up binning the brush. So net net you probably waste more than buying a Philips/Oral-B brush that likely has 10+ years of support for brush heads, which have a far lower environmental impact than replacing the brush. In terms of cost, if you buy the well known brands when they are on sale, they're generally pretty cheap. I'll admit they do try to sting you if you buy at RRP.

Good article from an intellectual curiosity perspective. I use the Philips Sonicare brushes, although I've been using 3rd party heads for years due to the cost difference (3X cheaper). Philips obviously wants to deter people like me from this behaviour. I see they no longer sell non-RFID heads, even when the old brushes lack this feature. Yet more e-waste as they try to nudge customer upgrades.

I base the Muji prediction on their hopeless online presence, frequently changing stock items, the lack of customers in the clothing section and my experience with other UK retailers. I hope I'm wrong.

I've tried UniQlo but so far have been unable to find an item I want to buy in there. I seem to recall on a recent visit that their winter coats have goose down, which I avoid.

Ah, a fellow Islington local! I agree Muji is popular, but call it my retail 6th sense. Nice places like that just don't seem to survive in the UK. The retail market seems quite segmented into dirt cheap rubbish and ultra high end. The middle ground has been decimated, Gap being another example.
