Yeah all fair. I actually got a Dec740 second-hand (I think it belonged to a small company that either folded or grew out of it) for a reasonable price, upped the SSD and the RAM, and now I'm building a router "platform" on top of Incus.

The idea is to run OpenWRT passing through the ISP NIC and one (or both) of the SFP+ ones going to the switch, and also run other services in isolated containers.

I'm even thinking about putting Home Assistant on a VM on it but I'm not sure yet what impact it will have on routing performance so that's on hold for now.

It's so much more powerful than what I need for the router/firewall that it should be comfortable to run quite a few things on it, and I can start moving them off it to other devices if Internet speeds catch up to it in the future.

What about switch port management? I can't remember the last time I couldn't do something with switching on it.

I've never had a use for proxy ARP so wouldn't know, but I do know it's possible to enable it. If not on the GUI, at least on the CLI.

I'm not disagreeing but they are quite powerful and fanless, with generous networking ports and both RAM and SSD can be upgraded.

I haven't been able to find many other devices that tick so many boxes. These seem to exist on a class of their own.

In which way is OpenWRT basic?

The opnSense Deciso boxes are very nice and open - if a bit on the expensive side.

I have an LG Ultrawide 38" monitor for which I haven't found an equivalent at any price point. I bought it during COVID and it's been fantastic ever since.

It's the only cable I connect to my laptop when I sit on my desk. It provides power, a webcam, wired ethernet and speakers (not the built-in ones which are actually not the worst but still bad).

I also have a CX OLED and I concur the image is best in class - though I wish it was a tad brighter. I have it connected to the Internet but I limit what it can connect to using Egress Eddie on my router, which means it can do Ad-Free YouTube and a couple other streaming services - as well as a selection of websites from the built-in browser.

The puck comes with the controller. You connect a cable to it. Do you mean there's a whole puck inside the machine?

Or is "puck" now shorthand for a wireless controller adaptor? What about the actual physical puck, with the cable and the magnets?

I had one of their washing machines. Purchased about 18 months ago. The dispenser drawer broke. I'm pretty sure it was bad out of the factory but it did last for this long, so I was happy to shell out for a new one.

Turns out they don't exist. LG have a website where you can search for the part. It's not in stock. They told me to fill out a form on a website they own, giving the part number. A third-party spare parts shop emailed me back saying they don't have the part in stock and that I should contact the manufacturer.

I found one that may or may not be the correct one and there's no way to know for sure before purchasing it. It costs almost £100 and takes 3 weeks to ship.

After days of this ordeal and laundry piling up, I decided to cut my losses and buy a Bosch. That one seems pretty great so far.

This is part of the controller, not the Machine. Unless you mean software integration, then it's on SteamOS and the Steam client, both of which can run on custom hardware.

Yep, it's very weird. Consumed, listened to... There's ways to say the thing like it is. I guess "read" carries a certain superior connotation so people lean on it.

Note that I do think reading is superior. This is not to diminish anyone who chooses to listen to books. Some people do it because of accessibility, some because of time (can listen while commuting, or in the gym), or they just choose to listen to some books they don't care as much whilst still read the ones they do.

This is all great and people should be encouraged to do what works for them - but please don't pretend it's the same. Sometimes I even think we need a different word for reading e-books.

I already see a lot of people say they've "read" a certain book when they mean they listened to the audiobook instead.

This is really nice, thanks for sharing! If you don't mind a little feature request, I'd love to have a "thinking level" selector on the GUI for models that have it.

I really like how easy it is to verify exactly what happened on each tool call, inspect the thinking blocks, etc.

It's also interesting to think about the fact that you can't fix food scarcity in general by simply giving hungry people money, because money is too fungible.

I don't think they're scams. They are certainly not as good as a split heat-pump AC, but they work to make a small to medium room go down from 35℃ to 25 or so, which is more than enough to go from roasting to being comfortable.

I said the trackpads solve for that. Nothing else. I didn't claim it was great, I didn't claim it was better than all alternatives, I didn't claim it works as well as a high-DPI mouse on an FPS. Whatever else you may have read on my comment was your own extrapolation.

You can't seriously argue that using a keyboard/mouse interface using the controller track pad is as nice an experience as just using a controller-focused interface.

Valve has also solved that by incorporating trackpads to the controller. I bet the PS controllers's trackpads can also be used for that.
