Yup, we need more data, and it appears the ball is somewhat rolling on this.

And meanwhile we need to try to not jump to conclusions, even though it is so very tempting for believers and sceptics alike.

But interesting is the field or subject of ufology (though I hate that word). It is so mixed with crazy people, very reasonable people, grifters, those who are maybe grifters, disinformation (maybe or just the crazy people or grifters again?) and maybe some real interesting stuff among it all.

Interesting there is not a layer put on top of the model response to filter out the secrets that it might spill.

If it really was that secret I guess they would though.

It reminds me of Onyxia in WoW, where the leading theory for a long time was that you needed Damage over time spells (DoTs) on her to prevent her from doing her damaging fire breaths, which would wipe the entire raid group. Turns out it was just random (confirmed by a developer long after), but it is interesting the meaning that can and will be assigned to random events. Probably the same mechanism that causes myths and eventually religion to form in real life.

May I ask the HN community what your thoughts are om this?

I always felt there are two parts of the “truthers”: the same crowd that is now denying covid and the ones representing this point of view.

The insanity is overshadowing the reasonable people in the truther movement, but in isolation this video (and ones like it) really makes me wonder.

I would love to hear someone talk about this actually as it has been my pet theory for the last 15 years since high school physics.

My reasoning was p = mv. m drops (through various processes in a star emitting energi==mass) and since p is constant, v increases.

Probably totally naive, but it is just a thought which has stuck around with me.
