So, "cooperation with police" now entails creating their own criteria for crime and dragnetting the presumed private conversations of a billion people. I guess I better not confirm birthday parties or holidays with young relatives or friends kids on that site.

I've never seen such a spammy startup post on HN.

No need to pitch HN like an infomercial - Just do a SHOW HN: Tripl and you'll see a way better response.

A few founder friends of mine have done this for techli.com in the past and they take guest posts from CEOs/founders. Might be worth a look.

I appreciated the examples the author cited. So often we see posts that layout generic advice by non-founding writers, its important to back your points up with case studies and examples.

This seems like a really great project for SXSW. I hope the test is enough for them to bring it into other cities.

Yeah Facebook & Twitter for sure, also Tumblr. But the people you're clicking on Path are in your group right? You can't just see anyone, or am I wrong?

I think the main difference is just that Path only lets you follow such a small number of people. Thus you are immediately saying these people are credible to you & whatever links they share are most likely worth looking into. Versus Foursquare where each link posted is just another drop in the hat for people how have hundreds or thousands of people they follow.

Hey Jason yeah that is what I was trying to say. Login screens are so second nature to people: username, password, login... that I wonder if that extra check in between would throw them off.

I agree that the auto check does come off slimy at times, but I think I get more annoyed when I have to login to a site again vs. seeing that they already checked a box for me. Either way you have a solid argument. I'd really like to see someone do some A/B testing on this. Oh, and thanks for the response.

I like your reasoning, but wouldn't that kill the UI of a login modal? Why not just automatically have 'Remember Me' boxes checked instead?

So apparently 'visual inspiration' is the trend this year? I guess that's better than daily deals.

Based on Apple's previous releases I just don't see this going through. It seems a bit excessive to create a product that fits in between the size of an iPod & an iPad.

Advertising does work, but it also has other issues being overlooked. For instance, all Geico commercials featuring the Cave Men have made me hate listening to Royksopp. I don't believe that's an effect Geico or Royksopp could have anticipated. Be ready for the affects good or bad if you're the 3rd party in one of these 'viral' ads.

Interesting article. I've heard of future partners meeting during Startup weekends, and this seems like another great place for new ideas and like-minded individuals.

It seems unlikely that an entire company would disband simply due to stress.
