I don't remember ever seeing a flag link.. so have never downvoted.

But I do upvote stuff I like and especially stuff I think is being censored by group think... so that could explain why my flag priviliges where never given or taken away before I could notice it..

A valid problem this.. I have been in Agra and was pissed off at how simple stuff didn't work.. there seemed to be seemingly simple solutions but the hotel owners/managers either didn't know or it seemed too hard... Similar issues in the trip earlier in the year on a trip via Trivandrum in the southern State..

I would then suggest its best to highlight possible corruption instances rather than pursue them..

that way the corrupt people see it in their interest to pull back rather than increase...

Obviously it needs to be paired with some instances being pursued to its logical conclusions and done so publicly.

if the startup has big traction, they have it..

if they are seeking better traction then the VC's have it...

the fact that they chose to decline your request shows that many execs are so used to people putting up with BS... I bet this exec team doesn't make the same mistake again but many will, cause very rarely do SDE ask for a raise.

Even then it's after they have put up with lots of BS and are used to status quo that they rarely ever quit.

if anything SDE are underpaid compared to the skills/competency they give in return..

We don't tell other professionals to take a pay cut cause a whole bunch of people are doing it tough...

exactly, you see this with recruitment.. when a company meets the right candidate they move very fast...

Anytime I did interviews, I had a 24 hr deadline for me to mentally strike out a option. Everytime I got a job, I was contacted almost within an 1-2 hr of doing the interview.

Any delays means they other party has other good options, same applies IMO here as well..

So in this case unless they sign on the dotted line pronto and give a cheque, things are still up in the air

I am assuming you don't have the same response now and if so what changed.. Did your knowledge of the product change(like, you thought AirBnB was renting Air mattresses earlier) or did the traction the product received change your thinking...

All this episode should highlight is that founders should not think that VC's have some sort of wisdom when they reject...

They follow only one wisdom and that is traction... if you got that and in huge spades, then everything can be explained in a wise manner.. and we will marvel at their wisdom.

That may well be the case but a dev should not trade his/her time at similar rates to other skills that didn't take much time/effort to learn..

dev skill isn't a common one, it takes a special kind of mindset to be a half decent dev...

it baffles me how devs can work for those rates...

no wonder I still see Ads for C++ contracts in Melbourne for $50/hr for a mid-senior level job... clearly there are people who work at those rates...

the biggest thing holding dev salaries back is cause many devs love what they do..

Same happens in India, states with separate rules, completely different culture and still functions under one federal umberalla..

2. if people give you money start work.

Suckers are the ones not selling it which would be majority of the programming populace..

I have seen top guys code up a entire solution at $X per hr. People who support that solution are able to charge 2X or 3X and who know only 1/10 of it... All cause they know how to speak the language or the sales guy who spoke the language sold it at that level.

People who have access to money are always paying for convenience.. programmers feel guilty charging for such stuff as we are aware of all the free options and generally do it for free.

If your guess and data differ, wouldn't it be advisable to double check your data, collection mechanisms and your assumptions that led to your guess/estimate.

After a few goes your data needs to take precedence and one's guess dumped.

Why don't we see people talk about the downsides of being talented( in sports)..

Why is being talented in a bookish or intellectual sense looked down upon? so much so clever kids are asked to not show of their cleverness.

We don't ask sporty kids (or people) to be less sporty..

I am keen to know if "wide variety of personal characteristics and a vast array of highly specialized skills" is fiction or modelled on real world personas.

To take it further do people with MPD have differing physical personas as well, say they have different diseases

If it was benefecial, why didn't you do more of it..

Surely as rational people that is the course to take?

I see the same with my Yoga practice... touchwood, I am mostly healthy and I should do more Yoga but somedays I am looking for reasons not to do my usual tiny practice..

Is it cause we don't make the outward connection between the practice and our wellbeing?

PS : thinking aloud and trying to see if I am alone in this...
